Still amazingly fresh, powerful, notes of straw and cashews. Opened up over several hours. Superb!

Opened at 110 in Paris. Half decanted, half left in bottle. This was lovely to try. Very creamy, buttery and rich with a hint of waxiness that I often find in Clos. My slight nitpick is that there wasn't quite as much acidity as I would have expected to cut through the richness, but this was really nice nonetheless. Drinking very well now but will definitely continue to age gracefully. Thanks to M for sharing!

An incredible private dinner in London : A real treat to drink a Raveneau Clos firing on all cylinders. More overt fruit and more youthful than the 08 a few months ago. Beeswax and honey nose. Anjou pear, sweet lemon, mandarin orange palate. Needed some time in the decanter and glass. 94-95/100

I personally very much enjoy the riper vintages of Raveneau. This glass of Clos was given to me blind. It was fresher and younger than a bottle of 12 Coche Rougeots, and I honestly felt this could have been a 19. PNP. Medium yellow. Sweet powdered lemon candy, iodine and broth on the nose. The palate is full and deep, sweet Meyer lemon fruit and an open knit texture that is enjoyable but lacks tension and acidity; not on par with the 08 Valmur.

PNP. Lemon, honey, beeswax and some brothy tide pool elements on the nose. Palate is deep and glycerol laden, lacking a bit of acidity but showing a lovely texture and chalky mouthfeel. Very good plus.

I tasted this bottle during a Chablis night at Sushi Shinkai in Seoul, together with Christian Moreau's Les Clos, William Fevre's Les Clos, and Vincent Dauvissat's Les Clos. As expected and without a doubt, Francois Raveneau's Clos was the final boss and stood out better than others. I loved the finest Chablis poised balance of nose and palate. Alas, its price tag is now at an insane level, I missed the time when the Raveneau was approachable.

Popped and poured. Ripe nose, lemon, honey, spice and a bit of iodine. Crisp and lemon infused, maybe a bit sweet and lacking acid/cut on the palate. Lemon and some chalky limestone texture adds interest on the finish. In a great spot, shows the vintage sweetness but lacks complexity to be a great Raveneau, however still a wonderful Chablis from a ripe year.

Decanted for 2 hours (and it could have used more). Medium yellow with some remaining green. Some persistent sulfur, tide pool iodine, tropical fruit, and faint citrus. Medium weight but without as much glycerine and textural richness as many Raveneau bottles. Guava and green apple, excellent acidity, strong salinity, and drying finish. The 2009 Raveneau Le Clos is showing well already. Expressive and bold with intense saline flavours and waxy texture. Though I suspect this is not Raveneau’s strongest vintage, the fruit ripeness is well balanced. Full bodied with broad-shouldered tree fruits and seashell. Drink now to 2037. (91/100)

So lovely, the epitome of a great Chablis, crushed granite-chalky minerals with a dash of white fruits, a little citrus, and balanced svelt mouthfeel that was neither too acid or flabby (quite a feet for 09). Relatively clean and pure, without being boring. Kept getting better as the night went on. Glad I kept my glass. EWG 10 (or rather 20) years on dinner.

Initially served a bit too cold I wasn't quite so sure on this one and for me as recent Raveneau Clos experiences go the 2010 clearly had the edge and the 2008 was also superior. The 2009 is a bit fat and clumsy and I probably missed the precision and acidity.

Magnificent. Reference standard wine that can run circles around virtually all the rest of Chablis and most of the Cote de Beaune. Chiseled, dense, multi-layered. Needed a couple hours to reveal itself, more and more nuance with time. This wine has a unique ability to match with many dishes that commonly would be associated with red. Majestic and beautiful, demanding attention and concentration.

Very fresh and just a little shy at first. Really dense and sappy in the mouth, with layered of orchard fruit and preserved citrus in the mouth. It breathes to show some blossom and smoky mineral and it powerful and complex Chablis that is just starting to drink very well. So much more in the tank though.

Uncorked 2 hours before serving into Zalto Bordeaux glass (“Flower” day): Brilliant medium golden to the eyes. Citrus fruits like grapefruits, zest peels all wrapped in incredible elegant spices and white florals. Quite hedonistic and deep. Great harmony of flavours on palate, signature saline minerality and perfectly judged acidity but nothing overwhelming. Calm and confident. Really flavourful and persistent finish with toasty notes. 94-95 points to me on this showing.

Tsunami of dry extract follows the elegant, graceful, sweet attack. The length and persistence is gobsmacking. I wanted to chew this wine as much as drink it, it was so substantial, so dense. Expressive nose displaying intense yellow citrus, lemon oil, lemon curd, honeysuckle, honey, beeswax, a hint of cedar and crushed rocks. Incredible concentration, layers upon layers of slightly coiled yellow citrus fruit, dense yet laser like focus, bright acidity, incredible amount of mineral and a long sweet yellow fruit driven finish with crushed rock and honey at the end. This beautifully expresses the 09 richness and the Les Clos focus and minerality.

Pale to mid straw. A sense of richness on the nose. Attack is fairly classical Chablis, a touch more honey that usual at this age, but it’s a dry, granular take on it rather than overt sweetness. Honeyed tropical fruit and crushed stone aromas prelude a dense, vibrant palate with surprising acidity for the vintage. While this is showing richer, tropical notes it doesn't come across ripe at all. I'm impressed. The 2009 Vaillons is very good and should drink well for the next decade.

A most enjoyable wine lunch (Eddie V's Prime Seafood McLean Virginia) : Clearly the best of the 2009 Raveneau trio we had in this flight: such sinewy length and one hour later in glass, it exuded such vibrancy but with a touch of mellow honeysuckle and even sage and lime. There is veritable complexity to the palate, but always with a fine balance of verve and richness. Bravo!

2009 Pre-mox dinner assessment, served single blind. Groups # 1 , My # 1 wine Medium gold color. Lemony sea breeze and oyster shell on the nose, with some crisp lime rind elements. Ravenau is the go to producer to lift my spirit and make me happy. Unlike the last bottle which showed tropical fruits, this is once again very precise and lean. It is all about saline, lanoline, honey and mineral. The fruit is white and cool, mountain stream, wax, strong presence of mineral and honey. Very good concentration, mineral and saline, cool citrus fruit driven palate impression, bright acidity and clean cool long finish. Not necessarily complex but just incredibly enjoyable.

HDH Burgundy Auction (Chicago, IL) : This one just doesn't do it for me. Obviously it's the vintage, not the wine. Fat, ripe yellow fruit just sits on your palate. The customary salinity and moderate acidity in this wine just can't wipe that fat off your palate. Don't get me wrong -- this is a fantastic bottle of chardonnay, but it doesn't hit the heights that Raveneau usually does.

Wines Tasted at HDH Auction (Tru - Chicago IL) : Very enjoyable sense of lemon peel and lemon scone. Perhaps a little fatter than the typical Chablis, but Raveneau structure clear and present from middle to finish. Ripeness belies this wine's ageworthiness.

A small gathering at Mark's duck house - Mostly French (Marks duckhouse, Falls Church, Va) : I have been extremely happy with this wine as they have been consistently pleasurable. Very Raveneau nose displaying ripe citrus and pear, saline and mineral. This is the first bottle that showed pineapple/tropical fruits, perhaps the vintage character is starting to show. Excellent concentration, oily palate, mineral and saline, bright acidity and lovely long finish. Drinking incredibly well.

Light yellow with green tinge. Urgent gush of tide pool and citrus. Pretty rich orange tinged fruit on the entry only to be followed by a wave of acidity and soil. Inimitable Raveneau suave texture, in this case not accompanied by hazelnut or an imprint of oak. Beautiful acidity throughout, moderate intensity, not the most profound example but just exemplary balance. A perfectly ripe Chablis, but it managed to transcend the sometimes exotic nature of the vintage. Excellent at this …

DCWino's tasting notes are spot on. I find that, in Raveneau's wines, the acidity permeates every part of the senses. Refreshing and exhilarating, drinking this left me momentarily wondering why any other white wine maker would bother to come to work in the morning. The perfect accompaniment to a selection of cheeses and meats, this more than whet the appetite before the main course and the reds that accompanied it. Rated 2 on a scale of -1 to 3.
