"I'm bored" small wine dinner (My house) : This is a bit heavy and caramelly, but there is a vast array of candied flavors that come out of it. A cornucopia of fruits.

A quaint get-together at Joe's Place (Joe's House) : This wine was like a rollercoaster for me! Much darker than The last time I had this wine (admittedly quite a few years ago), but the wine did not seem affected by the color. The wine had lots of candied fruit and showed considerable complexity. All in all a very tasty and enjoyable wine, but I found it slight unbalanced and needing more acidity to balance it out for me. Definitely …

The Cat's Away Small Dinner (Joe & Khem's Place, Mpls) : Deep amber color. From half bottle. Drank a small glass over 30 minutes. Really bold fruits, nicel complexity, sweet, pear, ripe apple, candied apricot, juicy pineapple, unctuous, velvety and quite long. This has just enough acidity to keep the sweetness and fruit in line.

DC Dinners and Tastings; 2/24/2024-2/26/2024 (Washington, DC) : Preserved peach, preserved melon, buttered popcorn, caramel on the nose. High intensity of aromas. Flavors are pretty consistent with the aromas, but the palate adds a bit of preserved tropical fruit in addition to the stone fruit from the nose. It's mostly driven by the corn and caramel flavors. The two minute long finish on this is in the running for the longest finish I've ever had on anything. Medium + body …

This very slightly cloudy wine was rust orange in colour and had an unusual (for this wine) nose of wax, smoke and some babd-aids. In the glass were flavours of apricots and honey. The finish tailed off quite quickly on this today. I do love these wines but this bottle has showed better in past tastings.

The return to The Ledbury, (The Ledbury, London) : Concentrated and big but with impressive harmony and balance and put a proper smile across the table. Rich, apricots and stone fruits, honey, young still and with full on bright acidity across that keeps the wine in balance. A hint of candied ginger to finish and give it an easy 95 in our view and with a lot of life ahead.

This made a Selbach Oster TBA had along side it seem like a feather-light drink of water. Pours like motor oil, with caramel, toffee, and some stone fruit drowning beneath the viscous botrytis jam. Ridiculously sweet, though somehow with enough acid not to be cloying. This isn't about charm, or subtlety, or depth of thought, it's just a bruiser that--admittedly--is much easier to drink than I initially thought it would be due to the acidity that carries through the finish. …

This wine was clear and rust in colour. It had a nose of honey, caramel and some citrus. It the glass were flavours of honey, caramel, peach and and apricots. The viscosity in this was very evident and this was a lovely sweet wine.

Mostly Domestic Wine Dinner (The Capital Grille at Tysons corner, VA) : This is big as one can imagine. Unbelievably concentrated opulent yellow fruit, peach cobbler, yellow peach, dry mango, honey and sweet spices. Exceptional concentration, layers upon layers of hedonistic yellow fruit, 10W40 thickness but magically showing very good balance due to bright acidity, the finish last forever. This is in your face kinda wine but I really am enjoying it.

Monday Night Football and Grand Cru (Chicago, IL) : From half bottle. Quite dark and deeply influenced by botrytis. Intensely sweet and almost syrupy in texture, but surprisingly a good amount of acidity as well (we wondered if this had been acidified). Somewhat simplistic flavours as far as the fruit (it does feel like the fruit is starting to dry out a little bit), but readily enjoyable in small doses.

Drinking this nectar of a dessert wine is a joy. It is thick, sweet and incredibly intense but with an acidity that gives it wonderful freshness. The wine is a concoction of the essence of orange peel, apricot and sweet baking spices. While its syrup-like texture would predict something cloying, it is amazingly light on its feet.

SQN Big Guns Night, Beefbar HK. SQN In Extremis. The last bottle to round out an amazing flight of SQNs. Premium Wine Night - Fall 2016: Westchester Wine School (Bar Lees, Mamaroneck, NY) : Finished off at our final WWS tasting of the Fall season. I've had this wine before and my notes are consistent. Rich and amber-hued, this dessert wine offering from cult winery, Sine Qua Non is sourced from 100% botrytized Viognier. Harvested at 42 ° brix, it's a remarkable elixir that offers up notes of ripe apricot, orange marmalade, mace and vanilla. Concentrated, waxy and viscous in the mouth, there is enough acidity to bolster hedonistic flavors of bruised pear, golden raisin, clover honey and whole cloves on the finish. Chicago Wine Flock..."Top Central Coast Syrah from Rich" (House of Nanda - Chicago IL) : Tasted double blind. Very dark color. charming dried apricot aromas with some nutty notes. Good but not at special or unique as the rest of the SQN wines. Dark in colour, caramel. The nose has botrytis notes, caramel, light burnt caramel, smoky edge. Good weight and balance on the palate, lots of weight but lacks a bit of va va voom. A bit on the heavy side. Good but not amazing.

2011 Simple Series VII: Sean's Birthday (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck, Paragon) : Wow, this was rich on the nose. Golden syrup, treacle, almost liquified apricots and figs. Attractive, but almost threatening in its thick, almost viscous aroma. The palate was very much in line with a nose. Very nice wine, but much more sweet than interesting. Very concentrated, reasonable aromatics of peach and mango. Similar flavors on palate, but incredibly short and simple. Served next to the Alban 2000 Viognier, which was probably a bit more interesting. These would have been better with dessert (we drank them sans food after dinner).
