Fragrant nose. Cherry and cola flavors. Still some grippy drying tannins left. Good acidity. Nice length and persistence.

Tasted at Summerhill LCBO Clear pale ruby with slightly orange rim without any sediments or suspensions Nose of dried red cherries and cranberries in floral undertones of roses Medium bodied, high acidity, high level of grippy tannin, medium finish of cranberry and red cherry flavours Comparatively simple for a Barolo (90)

Subtle nose, with dark, tarry, dried berry, and leather notes. Lush, ripe ripe and warming with dry tannins and balanced acidity. Weighty, dried fruit finish. 3.5/5

A terrific example of a modern Barolo producer. Drank non-decanted, I was struck by the dark color, with just a touch of slight bricking at the rim - much more consistent with a younger Bordeaux than most of it's Piedmontese brethren. Fantastic nose of subtle yet present red fruit, spices, and dark chocolate compete wonderfully with some sweet tannin for a lengthy finish. I have to disagree with some of the previous comments that are critical of this wines modern …

Forest notes, herbal, smoky, spicy on the nose. Balanced and fresh on the palate, round tannins, spicy finish. Already well integrated and quite harmonious. Very good. 91-92+

Wildman Il Giro Italian 2014 Tour (Spiaggia - Chicago IL) : Tasting, brief note. Red cherry with floral hints, licorice and allspice. Mature but very open and at its peak drinking window.

This bottle was performing better than I hoped. It was past its best, but still offered lots of secondary and tertiary flavours. the nose was beatiful although dominated by meaty and spices. The same for the palate. All in all a positive surprise.

Where to start? The 2000 Piedmont vintage, originally rated 1 million by the Wine Spectator? The abomination in nomenclature for this wine on cellartracker? Eight thousand different conflicting entries when the wine is clearly labeled MARZIANO E ENRICO ABBONA as the producer? Ok, maybe they are also known as Marziano Abbona, but that's not what the label says. Avril O. Incandenza, I need you now. This is a modern wine in a quintessential modern vintage, as the Spectator assessment attests. …

Very intense dark ruby color. Lots of fruit. Powerful nose that do not recall immediately a Nebbiolo. Pleasant wine, very modern style. Better to drink it around 18 degrees maximum.

Pop/pour. 89 points initially. Elegant on the nose, with an overall feeling of perfumed...a combination of medium dark fruit, cedar wood, and florals. Smooth on the palate, with a feminine character. With air, some tannins come to play. A touch underwhelming on the midpalate and finish. Overall a nice nebbiolo, if not a great one. Caveat: I served this too warm (room temp). I could see this being more appealing 5-10 degrees cooler. Update: with 2 hours of air, the …

Decanter several times a couple hours before serving. The fruit was still obscured by the tannins on the palate but the nose was wonderful. Look forward to trying again in 5-10 years.

Below par for a 2000 Barolo. tight bouquet of fruit and minerals. moderate red fruit, minerals and earthiness on the palette, but with moderately strong tannins remaining. nice finish, however.

Barolo, on the last Thursday of April (Willamette Wine Storage - Portland, OR) : The nose is dark and a bit brutish, and it had me nervous at first. It shows primarily campfire ash, like the one scorched log that remains in the pit overnight. Some cherries and violets show through as well. Perhaps they were left on the picnic table. I had no reason to be nervous though, as the wine is very nicely integrated already. Everything is clean, …

Last Thursday tasting group: Pre-2001 Barolo (Willamette Wine Storage - Portland, OR) : Rich nose of stewed dark red cherries, loads of graphite/pencil lead. Smells fantastic. The palate is bold, big red cherries, rosemary, very light graphite and tobacco in the background. Very modern. Medium tannin with a ton of acidity. The fruit outlasts the structure on the finish but has no evolution or wow factor. Overall a fairly basic wine compared to the company tonight.

Piedmont Night at Asher's Place (The Netherworld of the Upper East Side of Manhattan) : lots of wood on the nose and on the palate partially obscures the pretty fresh fruit, which has nice herbal undertones and an interesting medicinal edge. the tannins are drying on the finish. i wish they had taken a more balanced approach to the wood on this wine, the underlying material seems rather lovely.

Tasting Group Dinner - Piedmont/Barolo (Il Vesco Vino, St. Paul) : Terrific, intense smoky nose. Complex, layered palate of ripe raspberries, earth/forest floor, black licorice, tar, and fresh herbs. Concentrated and still quite primal, with large-scaled tannins on the finish. Very promising.

Decanted for 1.5hrs. Aromas of raspberry, flowers and cream. The wine had a velvety texture with berries, flowers creamy oak (suttle) and a nice tar element. Delicious.

Color: Dark purple Nose: Mushrooms, vanilla Taste: Truffles, oak, vanilla, floral, good acidity Finish: Long and very smooth tannins with floral, truffles, oak, vanilla. A complex wine! Evaluation: A great example of a Barolo with age. This will cellar well for another 10 years. 93 points

Decant for at least 2-3 hours. Still lots of tannins and good aciity offset by excellent sweet fruit concentration. Much better tonight than in previous tastings. Liked it better than the 2001 Pio Cesare (WS 94pts) that I had last week. I am going to buy more bottles. After 2 more hours. The fruit and structure on this are great and are starting to integrate really well. Starting to get alot of floral aromas. This is entering a much better drinking …

Knew that this needed more time but opened a bottle to see what it wa like. This is a good Barolo with good fruit and structure for aging. It really was much better the second day so that was promising. Leaving the other bottles for at least another 2 years.

This bottle didn't show nearly as well as the last initially. Nose of Raisins and some tar (smells very mature). Still the fruit and acidity competing with eachother but this time the fruit seems to be more in the background. More dry than last time. After letting this sit overnight the fruit started to come back into play. For some reason this bottle seemed more closed down initially than the last. The aromas seemed more mature.

Great fruit and aciity really play off of eachother. Has the tar in the nose that Barolo is known for. Excellent depth and sweetness of fruit. I'm enjoying this more than the 2003 Paul Hobbs Cabernet I had yesterday. Floral notes comming out after some air. WS gave it a 94. Which I think is a bit high. But still very nice.
