Soy, honey, leather, bonox, marmite. So intense and concentrated and super smacking of umami. A joy.

Light liquorice, soy sauce, forest floor, honey, vanilla, leather, dry finishing with plum, tobacco leaves ... very nice now ...

This is on song. I don't think it can get any better for this wine in it's journey or for Australian merlot for that matter. Voted WOTN by our Beefstak&Burgundy club members at last night's dinner (matched slow roasted lamb shanks). Ifr you have this in your cellar you are in for a treat.

James Irvine always fucking delivers. This is one of the true grand Merlots of Australia, Barossa-bred. Deep garnet in the glass. Blast of jaminess, but also freshness on the nose. Lots of complexity from everything in forms of fresh fruit, cooked fruit, oak spices, oriental spices. Beautiful. Superbly balanced on the palate, very soft on the tannin front with moderate acidity. Drinking perfectly well now, so don't wait until it starts declining.

I'll try to restrict my tasting notes on this wine to one a year to track it's progress. Massive concentrated prune essence nose, concentrated old vine merlot that is highly extracted - it has soy/unami/prune/cigar box/bonox/vegemite flavours swirling around. With the right (rich) food it is a perfect match. Would love to see how it goes in a blind tasting with the Great Merlots of the World.

Opened this bottle at Yummy Palace last night to celebrate my father-in-law's birthday. Decanted for 3 hours before drinking. Dark purple in colour with notes of rich, ripe plums and fresh prunes. On the palate the dark chocolates, aged leather and a hint of tobacco are nicely integrated. Inky, concentrated and powerful, all wrapped up with grace and elegance. Drinking very nicely at 14 years of age. The power, coupled with the smooth, silky and long finish makes this a …

I honestly believe this is an April fools day joke that the rest of the world has not let me in on. I like to think I’m reasonably open-minded about wine & taste but I can’t understand how people like this yet alone understand the almost universal acclaim. This wine is an abomination.

This has to be one of the finest merlots around, regardless of country. Just remarkable in its youthful fruit power, the way it evolves in the glass and the sheer pleasure it gives in its consumption. The fact that I went crazy and bought 10 cases is the icing on the cake. I'm sure there is some confirmation bias here given this action on my part but boy does it deliver on QPR AND pure quality level. If I was …

A complex bouquet of ultra ripe plum, cigar box and earthy truffles. Very seductive nose, very special for a Merlot. The nose keeps coming through, almost like a sweet plummy savory marmite note. You can even smell it away from the glass! Super intense flavors of baked tomato, cinnamon and sweet black fruits from entry to finish. But the wine is well balanced. Ultra rich yet with the the right lift of acidity in the middle, couple with a silky …

Good cork. Dense dark colour with non fading rim. Years to go based on colour development. Bouquet is plums, no , essence of plums with concentrated aromas of chocolate, mocha, coffee. In the mouth this has to be one of the most concentrated merlots I've ever tasted. It is a fat, luscious, hedonistic wine. Hints of blueberries and smokey bacon. Got better with breathing, at 90 minutes the tannins softened to smoothness and it tasted lighter with a hint of …

Merlot Showdown - Guess the Grand Merlot? (Bistro 103) : Popped this at Bistro 103 - "Grand Merlot Showdown" Blindtasting. I hyper-decanted this for 30 seconds before serving this - excellent move! A fruit bomb, blockbuster style wine. Intense floral perfumed nose, displaying scented wood / oak, dark red cherries, ripe red plums, beetroot, lavender, and raspberries. On the palate, very rich, sweet red berries, cassis, beetroot, hint of coconut and earth, creamy and full bodied, chewy tannins, yet not …

Complex and elegant. It tastes great, especially after blending it for 60 seconds (at maximum speed) and letting it breathe for 15 minutes! Extremely fruit driven wine with lots of sweet red fruits, red currants, raspberries, plum, raisins, and dates. I totally am in love with this wine, even though it's the 5th time I'm drinking it! It just keeps getting better and better. Don't pop and pour... MUST be blended for 60 seconds. Even decanting for 2 hours wouldn't …

I loved this wine! Complex wine with lots of raisins, dates, almost port-like, smooth, and very easy to drink. Tasted best after blending it for 60 seconds (at maximum speed) in a blender.
