Drank with family and friends on Whidby Island. This really surprised me. Drinking perfectly at the moment, this Oregon Pinot has captured the beautiful depth of extraction, the perfect medium opacity of true pinot color, has a great complexity, and a medium finish. This is settling in nicely. None of the pungent notes on the nose that I found in earlier tastings, but rather a nice, rich perfume with hints of minerality. Earthy fruit, cola with nice acidity on the palate. Medium bodied, with a longish finish with some fine tannins. Probably approaching its peak drinking window at this point. While this is still a nice food wine, it's now also drinking well on its own.

Shared this at a party so didn't get a chance to taste the change after opening. People loved it. Big from the start, classic Oregon pinot profile (if there is such a thing). It was smokey and nice dark berry and some cherry flavors.

Again, fairly burgundian in character. Starts out with a bit of funk, but blows off after 30-45 minutes to a perfumed elegant nose. Medium bodied on the palate, with a bit of acidity. Still think this is more of a food wine.

Ditto earlier note. Guess I didn't have the patience to wait. Better pick up some more of this, seems to be going fast from my cellar. A point or two better on the second day, when it is more fragrant on the nose, and softer on the palate. This bottle, on day 2, is among the best pinots I've had in a long while.

Original rating 89 - Nose and palate fairly pungent immediately after opening. Mellows after some time (30-45 minutes) in the decanter. Nose has a tobacco/tar note not dissimilar to Creed Tabarome (men's cologne). Both nose and palate trend towards the earthy side of Pinot rather than perfumed / fruity (previous references to men's cologne notwithstanding). Smokey, complex nose typical of the best Oregon pinots. On the palate earth and cherry. Firm tannins. This is the best pinot I've had in a while. Excellent stuff! Typical CA pinot comes off as crudely simplistic by comparison.

Chicago Wine Geeks do Oregon Pinot and Global Pinot Gris (Frank's Place) : Ruby red in color offering a a lightly aromatic nose of cherries, cola and vanilla. Medium bodied with a bright cherry profile on the palate. Overly lively to my taste and lacking definition. This improved in the glass and was fine to drink but failed to make an impression on me.

Ruby/garnet to rim. Nose is complex with scents of cedar, smokey fire, red berries, little earth and caramel. Palate: cherry or sour cherry fruit, nice balance. Cherry fruit comes through more as it opens up. Definately not as fruity as CA pinot. I liked the balance and maturity of this wine. Stands up to my previous impressions of Hamacher.

Good nose of dark fruit. Deep, dark color with no browning. Medium body. Very rich taste with a big mouthfeel. Nice acidity. It certainly deserves its 90+ scores.

Thanksgiving Weekend in Willamette; 11/26/2004-11/28/2004 : Open house. Floral nose with pale strawberry aromas. Fruit a bit more pronounced on palate, with some vibrant acidity providing lift towards finish. Good balance, but this is a wine I hope puts on weight with 4-5+ years in the cellar.
