Continuing my QPR search (RP/pro rating >=90, price <= $20; this one JS 92, and I paid $12.59). I tasted four bottles from Southern France side-by-side over the course of two days (all were stabbed with a Coravin initially, except the Les Darons, which has a screw cap). The bottles: 2020 Domaine Lafage Ctes du Roussillon Bastide Miraflors 2021 Chteau Pgau Ctes du Rhne Cuve Maclura 2022 Jeff Carrel Languedoc Les Darons 2023 Kermit Lynch Selections Ctes du Rhne Like …

Has a bit of a harsh, bitter taste that I don’t like. Still grippy, shows black currant and burnt toast flavors.

Red fresh fruit, lots of backbone. Good solid French wine. Above average in quality, above average value at $15.

A little bit hard edged on the palate - maybe I am having a bad palate day though.

Coravin by the glass. Nose of cherry, raspberry, bramble and spice. Ripe red cherry, raspberry, bramble and spice on the palate. Long finish. Full bodied. A very good QPR. Served with Sambusa.

Bright cherry fruit character to the nose. And a little bit of earth, bright enough on the palate.

Nicely integrated soft tannins, blackberries and other dark fruits/berries, peppery with refreshing acidity. Nice long Finnish. Hint of blueberries.

70% Syrah, 30% Grenache. Drinking well above its price point. And with some good grip to it as well.

Youthful ruby color with medium (-) aromas of tart strawberry, red cherry, white pepper, thyme and violets. On the palate, medium (-) acidity, medium tannins of baby powder texture, high alcohol, and full-bodied. Medium intensity flavors of wild herbs, blueberry, pepper, and raspberry. Richly textured albeit a tad simple; to be expected at $15/btl. Medium (-) finish. Good wine at an excellent price - proof that Languedoc reds remain Frances best values.

Medium ruby with cherry, blueberry, white pepper, garrigue aromas with subtle floral and menthol notes. On the palate, it's medium-bodied with juicy acidity and velvety tannins with black and red cherry, blueberry, boysenberry flavors accented with dried herb and peppery notes. Medium plus finish. Parisian Jeff Carrel was looking to make wines and found his way to the south of France where he has achieved some great status as a roving winemaker. It is a dual homage meaning "parents" in …

Brief floral aromas give way to blood orange peel, white pepper, grilled red fruits, and hints of olive and earth. Herbal and garrigue notes as well. Palate was a tad muted but had lively yet restrained peppery notes to accompany a thinner sliver of red fruit. Tannins were a bit bulky but were interesting compared to the elegance of the wine. 88 pts.

The wine looks purple colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, red currant, stoniness, forest floor, oak and tobacco. It tastes like red currant, mineral and stoniness. The body is medium. The wine has leathery texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.

Wonderful herbal nose, feel Ruby red, and robust, sour cherry taste, leather, with great structure, and long finish. Excellent dinner wine, really great quality for the price From winemaker Description Grenache and Carignan have long been cultivated in Southern France and represent the “forefathers” of the Languedoc Appellation’s red wines. An homage showcasing these varietals, this wine was subsequently labeled “Les Darons”, the affectionate expression for “The Parents” in the Parisian suburbs where winemaker Jeff Carrel was born. Grenache. Liquors 44 and probably Nh. Didn’t think it was great. Nick said to try again and that it’s good and that I have a horrible pallet. Liquors 44. $13.99. Tried it again. Nick was right. Very good. Night light smell. Little bitter after taste. Had with roasted chicken.

(opened 2 days ago) - color: dark purple; nose: light oak; taste: medium-bodied mouth feel, slightly chewy, fruity, medium-length slightly chalky finish with moderate tannins; overall: decent everyday red blend which needed time to open up and thus was much improved at Day 3.

So down here what I am being told is you have entreprenuers in wine making which allows almost anyone to get into the game. "What did you do before making wine?" "I was a ballarina" instead of "I was a billonaire." The parents - referring to the parent GSM varitieals. Fresh and fun.

De beaux aromes de fruits chauds, de fines herbes et d'épices. Un vin ample, ferme et chaleureux. Un vin de soleil. Les tanins sont bien enrobés par un fruité juteux sur une belle acidité. Une belle présence en bouche. Assez persistant. Meilleur après une bonne aération. Grenache 70 %; carignan 20 % et syrah. Élevage en cuve béton. Liège aggloméré. Alc. 13,5 %. Sucre 1,7 g/l. Servir à 15 degrés. 16,30 $ au Québec. (https://vinquebec.com/node/15160)
