Luigi Scala Cirò Classico Superiore

seems i liked this better with a little age, bolognese sauce, and service closer to room temp. nice, funky nose with smoke, coffee, bay leaf, oranges, and red berries. good acidity and medium bodied. cherry and raspberry palate with a slight chocolate note. the tannins remain rough but more integrated. like 120 grit sandpaper compared to 80 before. unfortunately the tannins still stand apart, not unlike young nebbiolo. medium length.

served 55-60 degrees. cranberry colored. nose is smoky, with lit cigar, black earth, rosemary, tellicherry, and bay leaf. medium bodied and medium acidity. cherry, raspberry, chocolate, grass, and licorice on the palate. grainy, puckering, sandpaper tannins. got better after a day, turning toward tar and raisins.

deep red color with a nice, earthy nose of red currant, orange peels, and sand. acidic and a little gravelly. palate cherry and earth, not sweet. was much better chilled than warm. good summer food red.

Bright ruby core fading to lighter ruby rim. Nose of blackberry, licorice, slight black cherry, and some spice. Black cherry on the palate with some unripe red fruit. Minerals and spices towards the end. Medium acidity, medium high body, medium high tannins.
