THis was just amazing right now. Glad I waited and wish I had more.

Horribly closed down and severe, even a day after opening. Perhaps this was or will be good another time, but there wasn't much to enjoy right now.

Concentrated, piercing, mineral and shale driven, reminiscent of austere Loire whites in style. Austrian terroir comes through strongly though. Lots of subtleties, good balance and finish. Overpriced at $20 but works nicely at $12.

Quick TN: Unscrewed and poured. Not much on the nose. On the palate, searing acidity. Where did the fruit go? The yeastiness, minerality, citrus? Not good, this bottle.

Solid and refreshing, one of the lighter styled Gruners I've had in a while tho.

Unique interplay between honey, white flowers, green tea and lemon oils on the nose. The palate is relatively broad with medium plus flavors of pear and lemon. Good, even acidity with persistence on the palate, finishing with some vegetal inflections. Nice length. 90-91

Popped and poured. Mmmmm. Fresh baked, yeasty bread, some minerality and white stone fruit. Followed by a citrus burst and acidity. Very nice.

I liked the floral, mineral aromas, which were plentiful and pure. Also very mineral on the palate, perhaps a little dilute, dull compared to the pretty aromas.

This is the intro wine in Nikolaihof's world class portfolio. The name is a reference to lees-stirring, which this stainless raised white sees plenty of. Aromas of citrus, moss, snap pea, apple, mineral and baking bread. Energized and minerally as hell on the palate, the wine is alive; constantly in motion. Electric flavors of green apple and lime gain depth from leesy creamy flavors and tons of mineral. Not for everyone, but hardcore rock-heads will dig this.

Huge acidity, pretty, but a bit generic on the palate. Not seeing any of the funkiness others reported (and I was hoping for.)

Brief TN from memory. Showing just a touch of petrol. Slightly sweet white/yellow stone fruit (peachy) and a little citrus with decent acidity. Curious how this will age.

So sour that I have to believe it was a bad bottle.

I've never had a white wine with so much bret. The wine salesman did warn me about that fact so it wasn't a surprise. In fact, that's what made me bought this bottle, but I'm still taken aback by the farm and manure assault on the senses. Not for me, but I can see how a lot of folks might like this.

It means "on the lees" Very pronouced "gardening" smell. Lentils say others. With some evergreen. Pure and brillant. Very different and the table discussion centers on yeast but that can't be quite it.

malty hefeabzug means stirred lees? On the nose is mushroom and malt but not nice beer malt and carrots ben said gardening? On the palate very fleeting.

staff gruner veltliner tasting (Waterford Wines Milwaukee) : so "hefeabzug" means on the lees. Expressive salon nose with impressions of sweet fruit. Ben calls out the smell of gardening. doesn't quite finish like the nigl. shale mineral palate.

light kerosene. little leesy, white pepper, chalkiness. Acidity is not so vibrant. Salonish nose opens up to spice. ripe fruit of peach and apricot. after 30 minutes floral notes come out, but this just seems a bit flabby to me. nolan loved the wine.

Floral, light, immensly pretty and wonderful. Why not at $28.

Probably the most mineral herby vintage of Hefeabzug that I have had. The disussion seems to revolve around the idea that 2007 is giving a tighter, more refined, or more linear wine. Which some tasters believe is better than the full force, almost RS, 2006. Worthy of exploration here. Something to watch.

Very mineral and brillant on the nose. The palate is not as I remembered (creamy, wheatiness) and is rather sliced green apple. I would guess this is its youth showing through. Lots of mineral. More of an intellectual pleasure than a drinking pleasure.

apple, peach and celery with white pepper, medium bodied rich and pure without being heavy, long precise finish. Excellent. 2+G (Horizon, 22)
