I assume I liked it because I kept the bottle without the notes

Drank last bottle from a case. Had improved a bit over time. Great value for a mid week dinner wine.

Deep red, with cherry, hints of chocolate and oak on the palate, with nice tannic structure. I've had this wine before, and it is a very solid choice for a $10 bottle-- a very good value.

Consitently good, and a good value (see other tasting notes).

Even just a little time has done good things for this wine. We were surprised by how much we liked it this time - fruity, well rounded, nice finish... nothing offensive at all. Now I'm wishing I would have bought more.

I'll be lazy and score this like most of the other tasters. I put aside my usual reservations against merlot to drink this when dad shoved it in my face. Ok this isn't bad stuff. Matanzas Creek or Duckhorn it aint, but for the price, this is fine merlot, and very varietally correct. You have your plum, you have your chocolate, and enough tannin and terroir to make it interesting. Strange, cedar aroma on the front end of the nose...albeit …

Well made, and well balanced, especially for the price. It is a fairly simple wine, relatively few layers, but a good "safe" wine. I'll definetly be picking up another bottle or two for my friends and family not into wine.

It made a great Merlot sauce: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/FILET-MIGNON-WITH-MERLOT-SAUCE-5653

Decanted some, this was OK. I agree that it's one-dimensional and rather unexciting, but I had it with a shredded chicken burrito and it worked out fine. There was something very signature "this is blending merlot" about it. Probably could've been a component of a wine that retailed for 3x as much if it brought that and only that to a table already set by some Central Coast Cab Franc or something.

This added nothing to a good steak meal April 2008 rated 71. Updated entry and drank another bottle-August 2008. It is drinking better now and OK as more of an everyday-drinker table wine. Now scoring 78.

Much better than I expected. A bit thin but no overly harsh flavors. Some oak and muted fruits.

Drank with Kristina at Greek Cuisina. Went GREAT with our Greek food. Definite black cherry nose and flavors, detected by us both. Excellent - 88 points.

Simple, one dimensional wine but quite drinkable. Very thin and light.

Smell, good bouqet, nothing descript Taste, nothing very special but a very basic Merlot that doesn't do a whole lot for me, it was worth the price i paid, i wouldn't pay more.

The only thing interesting about this wine is how, absolutely, uninteresting it was. It was a perfectly average, nothing special red wine. It didn't even have characteristics of merlot...just generic...close your eyes and...think of something good to say. Can I say anything bad...no...just nothing good either. WEIRD....

Not very much to this wine, watery and bland.

Decanted; 1 hour: distinctly fruity nose, tart with berries, strong tannins / 2 hours: fruity nose, much mellower tannins and smoother mouthfeel; overall enjoyable, but forgettable.

Didn't have much of a smell, at all. We decanted for about 45 mins before drinking. The wine was just a bit flat, for lack of a better word. Nothing spectacular. It wasn't horrid, just.... flat. Not complex at all.

Gallo Tasting : A nice simple merlot not offering very much, but well made and solid fruit and structure. 82-84

i was very surprised by this merlot, which is a gallo project. dark purple color (there is a bit of syrah in here as well). aromas of dark plum and even some pencil shavings. a big burst of black cherry, chocolate and oak on the palate, with solid tannic structure. quite impressive for a basic california appellation merlot for $12. buy without prejudice and enjoy over the next few years.

Surprisingly tasty! Saw this on a display at local grocery store for $9, and the wine steward notes sounded good. Took to dinner party and it was met with positive reviews. Lots of smooth strawberry fruit, nice tannic structure. Not overbearing in any way. Could lay down for another 6 months-1 year and improve, but drinking quite well right now. Excellent - 88.

Going to give this one another chance based on friend's suggestion. Original review: Young wine, clear rim variation, daybright, aroma of vanilla, wood, faint hint of strawberry. Palate didn't have much fruit, but reasonable tannins and high acidity for a red.
