Held up very well. Needs to be decanted for about 2hrs and beware of sediment. Initially unbalanced and a bit acidy but after another 30 mins was very good. Rating is after opening up.

very ripe on the palate, lots of concentration although tannins have softened to balance nicely. Pretty alcoholic. Notes of grilled meats, woodsy, minty, and leather.

Despite others ratings, this still has a kick in it. Pepper and spice make the dark fruit still interesting. Tannins are still present. This wine is not done in the cellar.

The back-story. I have been a fan, near obsessive fan, of Mollydooker wines for at least eight years, and have drunk more than 300 bottles in that time. I've also enjoyed the Marquis Philips, Shirvington, Henry's Drive. Winesearcher told me that a liquor store in Alphabet City had a well-priced bottle of Henry's Drive Cabernet from 2001. When I got to the store it looked like a regular ghetto liquor store that was doing a huge side-business in lottery tickets. …

Not nearly as impressive as previous tasting, this Two Left Feet leads with a pronounced cigar element which intertwines with juicy boysenberry, roasted meat and plum paste. Underbrush and cardamom tea drives the middle ending with a white pepper lined finish. Drink

Opening a Mollydooker I havent tried before is only matched by the nervous excitement of watching a newly discovered old Laura Gemser movie. Even if it's bad, it's still just soooo good! And so sexy. Initial colour was more aged then expected and the nose is oddly like a very heady pinot. I'd swear blind that's what this was and if that isn't crazy enough then the palate confirms it. Is 5yo McLaren Shiraz / Cab (& merlot) blend a …

Robe rubis. Nez très présent sur la confiture de petits fruits, vanille, anis et boisé. Vin rond trop sucré à bon gout avec une longue finale.

This has mellowed more since my last tasting two years ago. Balanced, with a great finish. Dark fruits evident, with a touch of spice. High alcoholic content is in control.

This, oddly and unexpectedly, starts out with a bit of a reductive, bretty, nose that seems a bit like an old school Rioja, without the dill and oak. The palate is totally disjointed from the nose and you get a blast of candied fruit that quickly fades and turns into an odd, 2x4-esque, bland wood note, with some unpleasant grainy tannins. Not as big of a disaster as the '06 Boxer, but these wines have really fallen apart. I assumed …

Stronger on the oak this time. On Day 1, alcohol not overpowering. Still jammy and a tad hot. On day 2, alcohol content was more noticeable. Prefered it on Day 1.

Dense , dark red, plums and dark fruit on the nose, full bodied, with a sweet taste of ( over)ripe fruit. The lack of acid in the wine gives it an unbalanced character. Not my cup of tea!

My second Mollydooker. Drank this bottle during two days. At the first nite after one hour of airing showed some fresh raspberry and blueberry on the nose. Medium to full bodied, quite hot and a bit austere, delivering tart dark fruit with peppery notes and smooth tannins. On the second nite (after 24 hours in the fridge) the nose was more minerally with less fruit. Palate was full bodied, smooth, a little hot with some complexity, delivering strong mineral (salt …

Decanted 30 minutes, first taste was a tad hot, but smooth with many flavours coming out. Got smoother and tastier as time progressed. Never had the "sorry Charlie, you opened me too late" impression - not faded, within 5% of peak, but I'll search fridge for remaining brethren to enjoy much sooner than later. Finally, it was an excellent value when picked up about '09 and correctly stored at 57F since..

This is massive, and not my cup of tea, but I can't deny it's well made. Briary, brambly aromas of black currants, tar, pine sap, and sage. It's rather brutish on the palate, yet as full blast, sweet, and intense as this is, it's remarkably smooth, the fruit masking the high alcohol, and displaying ferrous minerality on finish.

This is a tasty wine but totally lacking in any varietal character, which is not surprising considering the blend of shiraz, cab and merlot. So as a generic red it was pleasant.

Deep red color with bricking. Nose of plum and black pepper. Big, bold and in your face. Tannins are still right there. Alcohol is still there but not a real negative. Definetly not boring. Maybe the bottle is past its prime or maybe it's not my style. To put into context I have enjoyed The Boxer and Carnival of Love so I have enjoyed mollydooker in the past.

Big fruit-forward shiraz/cabernet blend, inky with heavy legs in the glass, prefiguring its unctuous mouthfeel, lots of black fruit and oak with pie spice and sous bois, jammy and hot (16%) on the palate, long rather sweet finish.

A total powerhouse and so fully packed of dark mature fruit it is quite overwhelming. The nose also exhibits milk chocolate and dried flowers. The palate follows through in the same way and also shows a rather sweet finish. But do not be mistaken, there is plenty of balance too. This effort is nothing for the faint hearted (as I have written many times before about Mollydooker), still it would be a very nice pairing e.g. to honey glazed grilled …

Plenty of fruit. Leather, oak, and cherries on the nose- black cherries, soft oak, and a bit hot on the palate. Should have decanted for 2 hours. Softened and improved a bit after being opened. Stood up well and great with steaks.
