The caviste who sold me this 30 year old Calvados told me that it had been matured in casks previously used to mature Pommeau (a sweetish apéritif made by blending apple juice with Calvados). I am usually reserved about the used of casks to add flavours but in this case it worked by conferring a discreet roundness and seductiveness to an already elegant Calvados. Excellent.
