On the nose, tobacco, cassic, violet. On the palate, dark black berries, tobacco, cassis. Good concentration, smooth medium tannins, medium-high acidity, bit of elevated alcoholic heat. Nice medium long finish. Good purity of fruit, hints of sweetness. Very nice and reminds me of the concentration and power I love in Marquis. 92-93. Def worth buying again, with only the hint of elevated alcohol making me hesitate.

Good. Nice, rich, persistent fruit, but just slightly hot and lacking in elegance for me. I’ve got another bottle - will leave it and hope it becomes more charming in time.

Very young but lovely nose (oak still apparent), dense and long flavours, cassis and plums, finish went on for ages

Youthful and fiery, this initially was quite spicy and tannic. There were dark black fruits mutating to mocha. Still a puppy, I’m just concerned that the weight of alcohol will dominate the structure as it matures. CHP 90 pts

Typical merlot profile but exceptionally well made. A few sips have even shown bubblegum or candy sweetness (my brain initially decided this was "violet" but i don't know I settled in more candy). All that without the mouth feel of a sweet wine. So far my favorite of the second wines I've tried.

2020 Le Marquis de Calon Ségur blend of 50% Merlot, 49% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Petit Verdot. Deep ruby-purple color. Cassis, wild berries, warm spice, violet and tobacco on the nose. Medium to full-bodied. On the palate is very clean with blackcurrant, blue fruits, oak, and minerals. High tannis, medium acidity. One of the better second wine from left-bank. Better in next 3-5 years.

Plush, polished, full and rich, this had delicious blackcurrant fruit overlying ripe tannins. Savoury there was almost a caramelly sweetness and a touch of heat on the finish which reminded me of a 2014 Chateau Capbern made by the same stable. A tad heavy-handed for my liking, this was still a commendable wine. CHP 89 pts

I really enjoyed this. My first of the 2020 vintage. This chateau is consistent. Right up there with the 2018 and 2019. Well balanced with integrated alcohol. Beautiful nose that lept out of the glass. Open for business but has the stuffing to hold for quite some time. Beautiful finish that went on for so long that I didn't want to brush my teeth before bed (don't worry, I still did) so nothing would ruin my enjoyment. This is my …

Big ripe nose, black cherry, black currant jam, vanilla bean, eucalyptus leaf, black tea. Palate is full bodied, with fine grained tannins. Moderate acidity. Long finish. Slightly herbaceous at this point, curious to try in a few years.

A Costco special. Definitely worth the $38.99. It's fully developed and ready for consumption. Better yet, decant it for 30-45 minutes before drinking for maximum enjoyment. Color. Dark saturated red. Nose. Grapey, cedar, clove, cherries, kirsch, alcohol. Palate. Backwards. Plenty of cocoa and dark chocolate. Plenty of grippy tannins. Finish lasts and lasts. There's a rich and developed structure to this wine. Yet it's not a massive wine, definitely medium bodied.

Ripe fruit and structure, a majority of Merlot, 3 years in barrel? Meant to be drunk earlier? Powerful and rich. And easy drinking for that.

This baby Calon Segur, with all of its spice, leafy tobacco, currants and herbs is already hitting the spot. Medium-bodied, vibrant and fresh with layers of sweet, ripe, red pit fruits and a touch of spicy cocoa is perfect to enjoy while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. Drink from 2023-2040.

Ruby core with orange rim. Certainly seeing some developments here - mushroom, soil, dried herbs, game. Plum, baked cherries, dark chocolate, cedar. Tannin is prominent but the fruit might begin to fade. Better with food. Drink now.

Sweet, robust, fleshy and chewy, there is a cool, spicy quality to the fruit with a savory character on the nose and palate. The wine ends with loads of juicy, chewy, firm fruits. This baby Calon Segur is perfect to enjoy while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. As good as it is, let it age for 3-5 years before pulling a cork and it will be even better 92-94

Leather on the nose and similar to last notes, but oddly, didn't quite hit the heights of previous bottles. Whereas the others were in a great drinking window, this nodded to needing a few more years. Shame, as it was my last bottle.

Strong vanilla on the nose, distinctive hints of leather as well. Cassis, cherries and mushrooms on the palate. Expresso notes much later on. Soft, integrated tannins. There is a lot going on here, but not in a uncoordinated, fruit mess. In a great drinking window now, and I wouldn't hold for much longer. I'm a huge fan of this wine. Note: it is not a second rate version of its big brother, but quite a different wine in terms of …

First bottle from a case. Not very expressive on the nose and massive tannins on opening. Decanted the bottle for a couple of hours and it definitely helped. On the palate, the wine is very powerful, rich and concentrated - an explosion of dark fruits, spice, violets and black currants. Glossy and quite glamorous. Somehow this wine reminded me Meerlust Rubicon in character. It definitely is on the young side so I will probably wait before trying the next bottle.

I didn't drink the same wine as the other reviewers... I didn't find this fruit-forward or sweet. On opening I found this thin and acidic. Over time (and with food - dry aged ribeye & bacon mac and cheese) this improved, but never passed the meh stage. That said, it went down quickly. Perhaps your dog chewing up your son's books will do that? Perhaps this wine just needed a long decant?

A bit closed on opening but with a nice fruit/tannin structure. Silky smooth in the mouth and very satisfactory. After a few days in the wine cooler it deteriorated markedly: still quite drinkable but tasted like it had been exposed to air too long. Not sure why this happened. Comparable red wines do fine for up to 4-5 days after opening in the cooler, and not infrequently they improve, sometimes markedly. I may try this again.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #104; St. Estèphe (By BS) : Beautiful bouquet with dark berries, vanilla and a touch of pleasant barnyard. On the palate red berries, some earth, bell pepper, laurel and other herbs and spices, firm acidity which is a bit aggressive and slightly sticky tannin. Fairly lean wine with some complexity. Also fairly elegant. There is enough bite for some more years of cellaring and I hope the acidity becomes a bit more friendly.

A big surprise how generous the blackcurrant and blackberry fruit is in this wine. Still representing its terroir but much more approachable in this very good year. I didn't find my bottle over-ripe but it certainly is fully ripe. Tannins are just in balance but this needs quite a lot of time to deliver a smooth drink I think. A great result from this estate delivering a very high value for money proposition.

Consumed over 3 days and initially it was hard to comment on this one as it was just way too young to be drinking. Lovely nose of violets, hint of leather, followed by blackcurrant and strawberries and a touch of espresso. But its infanticide to be drinking this so young. It needs at least 5 years+ IMO. Potentially its quite complex and could be fantastic.... On day 2 it smoothed out and opened up and on day 3 it hinted …

Good, solid, somewhat austere left bank Bordeaux. Dark notes of wet earth and pencil lead, good acid and tannic structure. Not much in the way of fruit or perfume. Softened a bit over time in the glass, but didn't gain much of interest. Overall, this was not an exciting wine and had no distinctive personality, but it was enjoyable and satisfying, a good accompaniment for the braised short ribs.
