Surprisingly over the hill. Orange brink in color, the fruit was gone. Bottle did not go bad, but is well past its prime. Again surprised by this given the producer.

Prior bottle was 28 months ago and the wine has evolved positively in that time. Black cherry, some red cherry, floral (rose), spices and leather on the nose. Nearly full bodied with open and expressive black cherry upfront with some brighter red cherry for highlights. Red cherry, red date, black tea, red roses, cloves, intriguing minty notes. Medium plus flavour intensity, medium plus finish. Decanted for 3 hrs but still quite tight on the palate. The acidity gives the wine enough tension and ageing capability. Balanced and intriguing. Love it!

Beautiful bouquet of spices, dried rose petals and fresh red fruits. On the palate, darker fruits like plums and blueberries emerge. The whole package is surrounded by sturdy get well integrated tannins. Menthol and savory earthiness bring this in for a long, pleasurable finish. 19 barolos have always impressed me in their relatively early drinkability. This is no exception.

Tasted at Tre Bicchieri NYC. This wine was quite closed and I suspect the bottle I tasted from was just opened. Was it shut down? Perhaps. High tannin and high acid. Classic. Roses, cherry, minerals long finish. Needs cellaring and better aeration. 94++…in time perhaps high 90’s.

Prince - Barolo 2019 (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street) : Note - very small pour. Agitation ekes out cherry, a little sweet spice, dried flowers. Medium plus intensity acidity, silky tannins, a little cherry note. Okay.

Fresh red fruit on the nose, tar, mint and balsamico; very fragrant, young and of course absolutely old school / classic. The palate is full of energy and vigor, extremely lively, so fresh, with bright acidity, quite atypical for 2009. Still young and primary with the sweetest, most beautiful fruit imaginable, so delicious already but with immense potential. Beautiful fine tannins. Outstanding and a benchmark, as usual. 18.5+/20

Fresh and diligent. Most post modern cogno notes - 50 days maceration, 50 % whole cluster. Fresh and complex, chambolle is the idea cogno notes. More herb and spicy and more fitness and freshness.

With Walter 50% whole bunch Savory and herbal on the nose with terrific purity of fruit and spice. Multifaceted nose and on the palate.Sapid with great palate breadth and intensity without weight. Cherry and strawberry fruit, balsam and cooling herbs. Midweighted deep graceful with terrific clarity and textural softness. There's lift, clarity and a sense of effortlessness. Very long spice driven back end. Wow

Deep minerally nose. Plums and dark but not ripe cherries. With time in the glass, it turns into raspberry and blackcurrant. Very tight palate. Eucalyptus. Austere, tannic but still bright raspberry fruit. Very minerally and graphite with core of raspberry fruit. Amazingly fragrant with raspberry fruit. 95.

Decanted for an hour before service - somewhat surprisingly, this wasn't too far off the mark. In the glass, medium-dark ruby red at the core, garnet at the rim. On the nose, cherry, tar, and some high-toned aromatics of damp wood and citrus. On the palate, a focused, clean mix of cherries, asphalt, and oranges, with a smooth texture and yielding tannins on the finish. Best bottle yet, and I think more improvement lies ahead...

Black and red cherry, earth, leather and spices on the nose. Close to full bodied (14.5% ABV) with rounded and pretty black cherry upfront. Decanted an hour before service. Several hours wouldn't have hurt, but this was approachable. In the glass, light auburn at the rim, shading to deeper auburn at the core. On the nose, plums, roses, and a hint of asphalt. On the palate, cherries, roses, anise, and perhaps a touch of potpourri, paired with a smooth texture that turns tannic and mouth-puckering at the tail end of the finish. Much more approachable than our first bottle three years ago, with a softer texture and less assertive structure - but not necessarily showing a wealth of fruit or complexity otherwise. With the tannins beginning to recede, it's harder to predict where this is going, but I would think there is still upside to be had with another 3 years in the cellar, perhaps more.

The very last of the bottle, about 4 hours after being opened, began to promise something, but up to that point this was a nice, if rather underwhelming Barolo. I would suggest a decant for a bit before drinking this.

On the nose, primarily crushed plums, with a secondary note of rose. Decanted for around 30 mins. Dark ruby color with a hint of garnet. Strong nose of black licorice, florals, anise, tar, herbs and some black cherry. The licorice and anise and tar were by far the dominant aromas and flavors on this wine with the fruit being secondary. Medium+ acid and tannins with a dry finish. Retailer tasting (@ N in L) : In the bouquet earth and plums. On the palate full bodied and ripe red as well as dark forest fruits, a touch of sweetness which is beautifully balanced by good acidity. Still powerful tannin which is a bit drying. Good bitterness in the finish. Beautiful wine already and with a few more years of ageing it can only improve. Around 2020? 91+ fore now.

Intense red berry, rosy floral perfume and dusty, dry spices filled the senses with one whiff from this feminine and floral Barolo. On the palate, I found tart, young berry fruit in a bright, feminine and floral expression of Nebbiolo fruit.
