6 years since I last tried this wine. Nose is full of garrigue and a bit of olive brine. Tannins are now fully resolved but vibrant, with an elegant but sunny profile, initially much more savory than fruity, but fleshing out with some air to show plentiful fruit across the tart red-tart black spectrum, with earth. A soupçon of dried herbs provided added lift, but not as much as one would expect for 100% full cluster. Long lovely finish.

Method: Pop (Coravin) and pour; Cab glass; chilled Look: deep purple with slight lavender rim Nose: candied lavender, dark raspberry pie filling, blackberry, bit of plain beef jerky Palate: candied lavender, raspberry, raspberry pie filling; long+ finish candied lavender, leather, light roast beef, dried herbs; low- sweetness; medium+ plush body; high- drying tannins, especially on the finish; medium+ acidity Overall thoughts: Expressive and there's some good stuff going on here, but I'm not sure all quite comes together. Tannins are …

Opened and poured - paired with sausage lasagna. Very dense, purple and full bodied. A bit tart at open. Full profile of purples, blues and inks - blueberry, blackberry, ethanol, creosote and varnish, and on the tongue, tangy fruit leathers, spice and zest. Continued to be tangy and pungent, with sour cherry notes and puckering fruits. I would prefer a bit more sweetness to offset the tang, and not sure if this will come around to that or not during …

This was one of the red wines I served for my annual WWC hosting. As all wines are tasted blind, I totally get the guesses of Cayuse-like Syrah. The 100% whole cluster use here is undeniably distinct. For the most part, it seems to be a love it or hate it style (I love it). By the time we all got to this, it had been in the glass 1-2hrs. Deep purple, with massive stemmy/green aromatics that hit you in …

I didn't take notes when this was consumed, but it was very good after pop and pour and it improved until we finished it over the next 3 hours. Darker fruit (maybe black plum) with a lot of dried herbs and pepper. Very nice mouth feel (like all Mike's wines). If I took notes and gave it a score, it probably would've landed around a 90 - 91, give or take. I'm not sure where this wine will go from …

The 2012 iteration of this wine was amazing. I love Mike’s style and work with Syrah. This is probably my least favorite sample so far. Still very good. Good typicity with dark fruit and olives. Some heat and some flatness. I am guessing with whole cluster this may be a bit shut and needs time. 91

bright red fruit, pronounced tomato leaf note. nowhere near the depth/texture described by AG. it a bad wine, but not one of power or presence to warrant the price.

Had side by side with the '08 Quivet and provided a great study in contrasts. This was ripe and balanced, brighter and more elegant than the Quivet. It had a touch more complexity with orange peel, lavender, white pepper and blood orange. Definitely some olive and gaminess, but nothing compared to the Quivet olive-bacon bomb, which was delicious, but in a slightly tawdry way. Lovely finish with well-integrated tannins that kept evolving over the course of a couple of hours …

Slightly edges out the 08 quivet we had last night. Lots of finesse, medium bodied, ripe but not overripe Syrah fruit, candied bacon, pistachio, pistachio skin, peaberry/peptol bismol (in a pleasant way), light herbal stemminess/garrigue, mostly resolved tannins... all with a good spine of red fruit acidity. Delicious.

Let this breathe for about an hour. Drank over two hours. Continues to be a great bottle for me. Dark purple and black fruit, but the fruit tones are secondary to the beautiful game notes and black pepper on this wine. After being open an hour, was still a bit reserved; however, after getting a second hour of air, this really fanned out and strutted. Would recommend two hours of air if drinking in near term.

Decanted for 30 mins. Dark purple color. 1st showed sweet and fruity, about an hour later the wine got really smoky - but still enjoyable, just a big shift from the initial flavors.

Came in #1 out of 4 Also had 2013s from Quivet Las Madres, Sonkin and Apsara Las Madres This was easily the most complete wine for me, followed by the Quivet. Great nose, depth on the palate and a rolling finish.

Big fan of this vineyard and winemaker. Big nose of red and black fruits, smoked beef and herbs. The palate is full of black fruits, smoked meat, black pepper and some red flowers.

popped and poured, saved enough for the second day. Color: dark as night purple Nose: not a lot on the nose, obvious fruit but nothing specific. A little starch like Pasta water Palate: casis, blackberry. Still a bit tannic, but not overly so. Very good and I will let the others sit for another year or two.

Popped and poured. Could definitely use time in the decanter. Nose: dark fruit, game and tobacco. Full body and long finish. Still a baby but beautiful.

Big fruit with black pepper and some bell pepper, but also with good cut, which is what I've become accustomed to with this wine. Paired well with Teryaki Chicken. This had been coravined several weeks ago, with about 80% of the bottle remaining, and it subsequently showed well right off the PnP.

Excellent fruit, spice is a little hot, still. Would recommend decanting at least 2 hours. This will show well beyond the 2015 drinking window, I would venture to 2017-18, with proper storage.

Some '13 Mike Smith Pinot and Syrah : Pump up the volume. All the great notes of the Esther turned up a a few notches. The Whole Cluster amplifies all the wonderful olive, bacon and floral fruit notes, adds a textural complexity to the mid palate that carries through long after you swallow. 4 days open and still needs time for the tannins to integrate. Dayum, gorgeous! This wowed me like the '11 Quivet Hulda did. The Las Madres bar …

Impressions from a weekend in Napa Valley (Napa Valley) : Tasted out of barrel. This wine is intense. There is a ton of complexity of spice, earth, dark fruit that's mixed in with a cooling texture on the palate. Tasty tasty. Absolutely intoxicating nose to boot.

Needed about an hour to flesh out, then this baby starts to sing. Acid, blood, earth, plum, kirschwasser--pretty but masculine.

Nick Wittman visits San Diego (Quarter Kitchen - San Diego, CA) : Tasted blind. Gamey notes of roasted meats, red plums, black pepper, and garrigue. The family resemblance to the other Myriad is there; this one just seems a bit on the young side. My #3 wine; the group's #2.

I opened this and poured a little out. I was getting bacon, popcorn and strawberry on the nose and it was a bit tart initially. Gave it about 2.5 - 3 hrs in the bottle and it really smoothed out. The fruit was fantastic, raspberry and strawberry is what I was getting. A great bottle of wine, glad I have one more left.

I thought this might be an adventure in baby killing, but with an hour of air it was singing. Great nose of red fruits, candy apples, and red licorice. Palate is bursting with raspberries, strawberry, and a little bite from the whole cluster. Just really balanced and pure, might get a lot better with time, but who cares as this is a tremendous effort right now.
