Opened about 5 hours or more prior to dinner with just an ounce first poured to help the wine wake up. The initial color is red-brown brick; the nose and palate are not promising. If Id been left to slumber for 16 years, I might be as stiff as Tom Hill too! By dinner, however, the wine is completely with it, hip and pulled together. The color has turned to plum (with red brick showing on the rim). Over the …

When first poured, the color, nose and palate were poor. But after leaving it alone for 3.5 hours, it is alive with ripe, sweet cherries and cinnamon - loads of cinnamon. The color is deep ruby from the core to the rim. Rich with fruit, like cherry pie and layered with flavors of pomegranate, earth, mineral and .... cinnamon. Layered and nuanced; proper and well breed. An excellent wine. Almost nothing to suggest sediment. 13.5% alc. With sage stuffed roasted …

This is showing some age, what with its bricked rim and ruby core. It is a delicious wine just now; rich, layered. Not splashy, but very nuanced. An elegant wine. For me right now, its a death wine - a wine that penetrates through the shocked, dulled senses and reminds you of life by reaching deep and rekindling that sense of drive that we call life. Only the smallest grains of sediment. 13.5% alc. Food pairing not recalled. The week …

The initial presence of VA blew off, but it took about almost hour to do so. The nose and palate liven with violets, dried cherries, cranberry, mineral (perhaps iodine) and brown sugar. Nothing in the profile is finely focused, but the individual elements are all there. Something sharp interrupts the finish that I cannot quite describe - more tactile than flavor. But for the clunky bump on the finish - which I suspect will go away with time - this …

Friday, December 27, 2002 Deep, dark ruby all the way to the rim. A restrained, but complex nose of cherry, berries, sweet cola, vanilla and coffee. A very delicious nose. If only the palate were as interesting as the nose. A very tight, almost unyielding palate of berries/cherries, some faint mocha on the finish. Strong tannins with an almost bitter and somewhat short, fading finish. Very disappointing but hope the nose is an indication of something to come. With mushroom …
