Hawkes, Pyramid Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley

Great but still working to develop secondary & tertiary flavors. Tanins not yet fully integrated but have softened

I’m not planning to open another one of these for at least 3 years. Good but should get much better one the savory elements start developing.

Needs a couple more years to develop secondary aromas.

Very very smooth

We’ve been sitting on this one for quite some time, and the opportunity to drink it with friends and family finally presented itself. If you’re familiar with Jake’s wines, this won’t dissapoint. Light on the oak, and letting the grapes shine, it is a true expression of 100% Cabernet. Granted, this style isn’t for everyone, but if you’re a fan of Hawkes wine, you’ll appreciate this one. Just outstanding. Picked up a magnum from the winery this year. Deep red color. Surprising dark fruit on the nose. Good fruit on the palate with dark cherries and blackberry. Just a hint of spice. The tannins are almost completely softened out, with just enough for balance. Definitely drinking like a well seasoned Sonoma cab.

Deep purple color. Tannins barely evident. Blackberry, leather and tobacco on the nose and palate. Drinking nicely.

Very structured wine. Quite tight, with little fruit, but lots of leather and some must. Wish I had another bottle to see what will happen with it. I'm afraid it may be one of those bottles that just never really integrates.

Big blackberry nose with some earth, lots of earth on the pallet along with tannins, blackberry and coffee. Had General Tso's Chicken salad for dinner, not a good combination. This big wine deserved a good steak. The pre-dinner glass tasted better than the with dinner glass. Not the wines fault. Nicely layered flavors, this is a big and very tasty wine.

Favorite bottle of the evening

As much as I LOVE Hawkes, this bottle never opened up even after 2 hour decant and an hour plus over dinner. Alchohol never subsided. I am hopeful in another year or two this will return to being a great bottle of wine.
