Really good wine! After reading the other reviews we were thinking it may be way overdue! The nose is oaky but the flavor has a great spice and bold fruit! We did aerate with the aerator, but a great time to drink!

I feel this vintage is not cellaring in a way I would hope. It may that more time decanted will help open it up, but it missing deep body or fragrance. It is certainly passable, but some of the charm of Mark Ryan, at the moment, is tarnished.

Decanted 2hrs. Tasted over two days with consistent notes. Light nose of black fruits. Mid palate of extracted black berry/cherry fruit followed by tannic finish. Fruit beginning to fade. Mediocre value compared to their: Long Haul and Dead Horse offerings. Can do better for $27, both from CA or WA.

This was the WOTN for me and a few others, this bottle was singing! The wine is clear, garnet with violet and the hues are dense but brilliant in the glass. The smells are currant, cherry, dark chocolate, eucalyptus, earth, mushroom, and coffee. The tastes are currant, dark cherry, cacao, vanilla, and coffee. The tannins are like fine dust and the acidity is nice and this wine had a long finish.

Friends and I tasted this at the winery on 2/11/12. It had a rich, ripe and fragrant bouquet of black currant, black berry, black cherry, cocoa, mocha, licorice and spice aromas. The palate was also rich and ripe with flavors that followed the nose. 90+

A friend and I tasted this at the winery on 11/26/11. It had an intriguing, ripe and fragrant bouquet of black currant, black cherry, meat, cocoa and spice aromas. The palate was big, ripe and a little hot with flavors of black cherry, blackberry, black currant, dark chocolate, licorice and spice.

Really big dark berry and black cherry fruit. Almost overwhelming, but not really out of balance. This got a lot better with time in the air but it's still a little early to drink it...the finish is marred by slightly drying tannins and a burst of alcohol that tries to escape through my nose. If I held a match under my nostrils during the finish I might get flames..

Terrific blend...biggest and most balanced Dissident to date...had not measured up to the Dead Horse or Water Witch blends in past vintages, but this can stand with them in terms of big fruit, smooth tannnins and long finish. Excellent effort.

Day 2 in Woodinville (Woodinville, WA) : Incredibly dense black fruit, lots of spices and nice violet tones. Sadly, the wine was just too hot on the finish...it was hard for me to get around that.

I've never understood the excitement over wines from this producer, as they typically are not very enjoyable. However, this one was definitely a dissident (sic) from the other Mark Ryan wines I have tasted. Big fruit, and continued to get better as it sat.

My sister and I tasted this at the winery on 10/1/09. It had a nice bouquet of plum, smoke, pepper, spice and petroleum aromas. The palate followed with plum, spice, vanilla and pepper. It’s certainly not my favorite.

A pretty wine on the feminine side of the scale. Lots of fruit but not hot or ripe. The blend of Merlot, Syrah, CS and Petit Verdot work well. Nice balance, very fine tannins. My only complaint is the hot burning finish. 14.5% Built to drink, not to age. I'd guess one or two more years in the bottle to its prime.
