Dinner with EricG (Seattle, WA, USA) : This was a wild ride, as the aromatics just kept changing. A teeny bit oxidized on first open, this exploded with a massive note of eucalyptus and herbal components. That settled down and integrated after time. Gorgeous palate, mineral, focused, pure.

Day 2: Whatever off putting earthtones and muted flavors were plaguing this on Day 1 certainly resolved themselves after vacuum sealing and returning today. Pleasant aromas and flavors of black plums, red cherries, mixed berries, sweet spice and mulchy earth. Developing balance and complexity. Structure is present but not obtrusive. Medium plus finish. Hopefully the next bottle will present better. Day 1: Decanted for a brief period. Displays a deep ruby core. I can’t say with 100% certainty that this …

I waited 15 years to open my second bottle of this vintage and it was awesome. I believe it can age further, will wait a few more years for my last bottle!

I suspected this vine needs another 3-5 years of development in 2012. Forgot it until 2025 and today it is shining. All the elements are still there while differently balanced. Red cherry shines through with underlying notes of ash, ham and lava, some smoke. Delicious, interesting and captivating. Dark transparent red, almost black --- Nose dark, earthiness, fresh mineral breeze, bacon, overall vivid and fresh --- Palate watery, fresh, red and black cherries, nutty notes, some glue and tire, some …

Strong cork. 3 dimensional wine with layers of fruit. In perfect form now. Flavors penetrate deep into palate with considerable length too. Beauty!

Dinner with friends (Seattle, WA, USA) : Wow, such lovely Aglianico. Bright and floral, but chewy and smoky, wonderfully earthy. Rather haunting and deep.

In 2011 I wrote a note saying don't touch this for a long time, I guess 14 years wasn't long enough. Opened with lasagna bolognese and it was immediately charmless. Hard tannin, broken pumice stone, maybe some potting soil. Shows some ink well and melted crayon with air but still hard to drink a glass of. The next day showed some fruit and sweetness peeking through the blocky structure and you can see there is indeed a wine in here …

Will keep the score. Have opened up a little compared to the last time. Should have waited a few more years. The oak is getting more integrated and the rustic aglianico natur and minerality is present in the long aftertaste. Must try some more vintages

Very nice wine and a deviation from the beaten path. Aglianco can age but it remains 2 dimensional at at best...Fully mature and dry without any foreseen hope for development from here....Drink!

Last bottle. Not bad. Drank over two days. First night I thought this was somewhat faded, everything is there and in good balance but nothing really stands out. Second night surprisingly it held up very well... but still no real delight. I'd guess it would hold for years but won't improve, and is average to boot.

Quite of brooding and not giving much although you can feel the volcanic influence with some imagination. Underwhelming experience, I guess there are better bottles out there

This is now open and singing, at least after a 45 min decant. Still quite a lot of structure and tannins of course but also beautiful dark fruit, nice complexity with some spice and nailpolish. Medium lenght to the slightly smoky finish.

Dark color, dirty aroma, like drinking from an old boot. I've tasted at least ten of these bottles over the years and they've been uniformly disappointing. This was a sip and pour... down the drain. Hope it's my last bottle.

At Evvia. Very polished silky and rather international tasting. Great depth of fruit but not a lot of secondary notes. Not overtly sweet but comes across jammier than I am used to in Italian reds. There is no denying this is tasty and will appeal to everyone

My final bottle of this vintage and it was from a magnum. It was opened, but not decanted, for an hour before pouring. I brought this to an Italian restaurant with my wine group. We all loved it, but those of us who have had the Galardi before all felt it tasted much younger than we expected a 2008 to taste like. Maybe it was the magnum effect? Full bodied, with notes of tar (in a good way), dark dark …

**For My Own Tastes** This may have been a bit past prime. Super mellow. But great mustiness, dark fruits, floral...then as the night wore on sort of a baked biscotti thing happening, which I liked a lot. Nice wine. I've had it a few times. However I think for me, get to it before it's 10 years old. Drink this one now, OR find a time machine and go back a few years.

Decanted 2hrs. With Galardi in the past, I have found them either too young and yet full of promise or good to very good, but never quite getting over the hump for greatness. Saturdays bottle was a stand up triple and scored two runs with ease. While you could sense a little gloss of French oak, it really felt integrated and didn’t come at the expense of masking the Aglianicos robust and burly persona. In fact, it really came across …

Deep saturated red-purple in color. Soaring and warm aromas of dark cherries, plums, lifted mentholated notes, smoke and herbs. Super silky and refined palate shows incredible depth and length to the ripe and sweet dark fruits, good acidity, very fine tannins on the long and intensely perfumed finish. The 2016 is a home-run.

Beautiful nose of ripe fruit - cherry, plum, strawberry, fig - pine forest, coal/ash and leather. Lots of other details as well. On the palate starting to soften. Still a backbone of tannin and stone, but not as monolithic as it used to be. A clear step up from previous bottles. Very good.

My first Lavoro. Lovely wine! However I had it over 3 days and it was like a different bottle each night. The first night was not great - it seemed disjointed. I would decant this in the future. The second night was great, much smoother with integrated tannins and big plum fruit. Third night it had lost some of the fruit but was still bright. Interesting wine and I'm looking forward to tasting more.

I’ve had a bunch of these over the years with this being the most aged. Still yourhful color. Rustic nose, hard stone fruits, mineral and black earth, touches of herb. Palate was still firm and rigid. With air a nicely complex structure. More cherry stone fruit, crushed rock and ash. Classic lavoro in my experience I wonder how these would evolve at 30 plus years They are built to last

Bottle off the list at Enoteca Turi - suggested by the somm. Limited notes so no rating - to some extent driven by focusing on the company but also by not having my attention grabbed by the wine. This was quite rounded with ripe dark plum and some vanilla. Tannins felt resolved and this was easy to drink without really leaving much of an impression...

Another beautiful Terra di Lavoro. Fruit, especially black fruit, dominates, but this has all the usual complexity of other vintages. This was PNP’d and was ready to go right out of the gates. (Was poured into water tumblers, so not exactly ideal conditions- I look forward to trying my next bottle with proper glassware).

This was a bit of an enigma for me, as the wine was very closed down and hard to decipher. Color - very dark, inky, almost black, no signs of age. Nose - Initially very muted, struggled to discern any noteworthy aromas. Immediately moved to decant and only about 3-4 hours in, the wine began to open up and show notes of Cassis, blackberry, vanilla, earth and oak barrel. Mouth - Very tannic at the start. Again, after 4 hours …
