K. Wechsler, Kirchspiel Riesling, Rheinhessen

Another bottle in 2 months. Wine was precise and elegant. This time the wine had more time to breathe (3+ hours) and opened up much better. An upgrade to 93 points.

Medium pale yellow gold with green tint. Citrus, pear, green apple, white peach, white flowers, and minerality. Medium bodied, medium-high to high acidity, medium structure, medium alcohol and long finish. Fresh, elegant and well-balanced. Wine still youthful and needed more time to develop. Paired with 2021 Westhofener Morstein from same winery. Kirchspiel was racier and more finesse. Morstein was bolder and more voluptuous. Very reductive on the nose and intensely coiled on the palate. I taste and smell some tropical fruit notes, but right now, it feels very shut down, with just an austere and acidic palate that has a very short finish. There seems to be a lot of potential for this to unwind into a very pretty dry Riesling, but it is really too early to judge it right now.

Ein ganz toller Riesling! Schlägt viele GGs auch aus 2012 um Längen!! Kein Gramm Fett zu viel, tolle Säure und Mineralität. Super Zug und Trinkfluss!! Noch immer jung aber jetzt in einer fantastischen Phase!! Hätte ich doch bloß mehr!!! Verdammt gut!! 93-94P

Ganz toller Riesling!! Öffnet sich jetzt langsam. Frisch, schöner Zug und Druck! Nicht so fett wie viele GGs. Toller Trinkfluss. Schöne Mineralität und Exotik!92-93P

I was a little bit disappointed. The 2012 is gorgeous (93-94), but this one was too flat. Too much acidity, fruit is missing, there is a big disbalance. Even two, three hours later still wizhout any fruitieness. Maybe it will be better in a few years but I doubt. Sorry katharina for this Bad rating.

Wechsler Kirchspiel 2013. Eksotisk (tutti frutti?) frukt, aprikos, sitrus, og bitte litt petro (ikke på smak). Litt våt skifer i bakgrunn. Flott frukt, og konsentrasjon, som sammen med syren gjør dette til en meget flott vin. Elektrisk avslutning. Går fint til moden rakfisk, men ikke optimal match. (91)

From about 50yr old vines on limestone soils comes this distinct Rheinhessen Riesling. Present, yet fine and elegant aromatics in a mix of Yellow, Exotic and Citrus Fruits; Ripe Apples, Stone Fruits, Pineapple, some Melon and Orange Zest come with fine minerality and delicate florals. Juicy and vibrant on the palate. Dominant Citrus , wet rocks and fine acidity. Decent (herbal) spiciness and saltiness. A beautiful wine!
