So I bought a cellar; 11/12/2022-12/31/2030 : Cork was soft, but only about 1/4 soaked. The Durand was necessary here. But it smelled so good - still good fruit on the nose when opening the bottle. Poured deep, but transparent red with bricking around the edges. This still has fruit - it’s tired - but holding on. Still some tannins and acidic structure. Definitely an old wine profile, with some leather and mushroom, but following that is soft red fruit. …

Although the cork broke off while opening, the wine itself still had plenty of fruit flavors & was smooth to the palate. Mature wine with very little tannins left. Overall, still very good.

Definitely past its prime but still very interesting. Lots of bramble, earth, mushroom. Tannins long gone. Was very good to sip and with steak. Nose was soft but earthy; palate no wood, just hints of dark fruit with mushroom and earth

red colour, faded at rim just a touch of brown Love the way it smells, tobacco, mellow, so cedar Tangy on the palate, a little mushroom, still some tannin and a kind of chestnut texture on the finish long Falls apart very quickly in the glass so don't decant and drink it quickly!

My last bottle and no regrets for waiting 35 years. Delicious!

A few years past its drinking window. Even at its prime though, I doubt this would have been a standout wine. Narrow and flavor notes are limited to green herbs.

Amazing! Thirty-two years young and still going strong. Fresh and mellow, no browning on edges, still vibrant after an hour. Cork was 50% soaked, fill was into neck. A great effort from a winery not thought of as having quality cabs.

Drank from magnum, nice nose, still strong dark fruits, blackberry raspberry, a hint of cherry and currant. Strong finish. Probably a bit past prime past peak.

Tasting at Trefethen. tasted magnum. Heavy on the fruit and acidity but doesn't have enough tannin. too simple but still drinkable.

I was concerned that this may have been corked after I opened it, as the color seemed a bit brown and there was some musty smell, but it was unwarranted; this was truely lovely. Dark fruit, a lot of complexity and a good amount of weight and bearing - a great example of what an old vintage Napa wine can do.

Passed its prim, stored well bottle level was high in the neck. Brick in color and the nose was sharply oxidized, dried fig, tar, raisin. There is no more structure to this wine.

Really interesting stuff. This followed an '81 Grgich Hills, and this was better or at least more intriging.

Enough currant and tannin, but thin, metallic, and a bit on the sour side. Poor value if this bottle is representative.

Starting to lose it's fruit but has tobacco and cedar notes. Not a very long finish and slightly hot but still a good wine. Served from Magnum. Definitely not a fruit bomb. This wine is at a phase where it's trying to integrate the fruit and secondary nuances, yet somethings not right. It's missing a component to it. Now that I think of it, did I drink the 95 or the 96? Oh well.

This wine is very tightly constructed with a crystal clear, brickish color. The nose is very open and has scents of herbaceous fruit. The taste still exibits plenty of mouthdrying tannin and some acid but also plenty of ripe red cherries and some casis. I would think that this wine will develop for at least three more years and then peak and be delicious for another two years. We had this wine again on August 16th, 2008 and it is …

Trefethen Star Spangled Pumkin Harvest Party (Trefethen Winery) : Aromas of spice, cherries and wild berries. Touch of chocolate flavor with nicely balanced tannins.
