Tasted at restaurant Taos in Zurich with an Asian inspired lunch: A textbook Riesling! 18ct. golden color, very attractive nose:mineral, apples, a touch of ripe pear and a faint kerosene nose in the Alsatian style. On the palate the wine has medium weight and a long finish. Acidity is well integrated and gives it balance and structure. Great mouthfeel with minerality and elegance. Wonderful experience of a fully mature and wonderfully developed wine of great complexity and finesse and of …

Beautiful wine! Deep golden color. Lots of yellow fruit but backed by great acidity. Was afraid the hot year would make is overripe, but this was opulent in a positive way - great balance and super long aftertaste. Drinking great now. Sadly my last bottle.

Clearly my last bottle of this wine that I wrote a tasting note on from 2022 was an off bottle because it showed brilliantly tonight during our Thanksgiving meal. This is a total palate lifter and it awakens your senses. Vibrant and wonderful in every sense. Glad I still have a few bottles remaining.

Toxicgreenyellow Color. Peach, slight petrol, alpine herbs with camomile support from citrus fruit aromas. Almond and pink grapefruit in the acidity driven finale. Some pleasant bitter notes. All is supported by elegant vanilla and clove from the oak treatment.

Tasted this along with the B-J Ung. 2018. Distinctly different due to the oak: darker in color, but also in temperament - brooding. Spicy aroma. Wax, grape, lemon. Nice acidity, good structure, good finish. An interesting take on Riesling

at Humble Grape Liverpool St. Stunning. Agree with R J Lewis, the oak adds a very exiting dimension to this expressive and high-energy Riesling. Really good.

Served from a split. I’m not sure what to think of this wine so I won’t give it a rating. There was nothing bad about it, but I was expecting it to be vibrant and alive but it fell short of my expectations. The best way to describe it is thin, diluted, watered down. Is it because I opened it so young? I will hold my remaining bottles.

(Imported by Skurnik, NY). This producer (formerly known as Dr. Deinhard) located in the Pfalz is on the rise. ___________ Color: Lt- medium-straw. Brilliant. Nose: Medium intense, ripe, lemon quartz, lemon marzipan, white peach, fresh cut chamomile, and minerals. Very light on the petrol/fusel (and frankly I don't miss it). No overt oak. Pal: Really comes on here! Wow. So concentrated in the mouth it's almost painful (that's loads of extract and high acid). Powerful!! Tremendous concentration of fruit (obvious …

prepared sample N: wow, stunning nose. probably some barrel influence here, but still so fresh and vibrant with wax, lemon, pink grapefruit, pronounced and complex. P: rich, full palate, with cooked lemon, yellow melon, cooked quince, cream and toast, but with vibrant acidity cutting through. Long, full, palate-filling finish but ending fresh. Full-bodied, impressive and hedonistic. For those that don't mind that barrel-fermented toastiness. Ace.

Medium lemon in colour. Flint, and citrus and stone fruit. Lemon curd, orange peels, green apple, peach and passion fruit. After a while some herbal elements emerged. Mint, lemongrass, chervil, and tarragon. A touch of RS which coupled with the oak makes the wine feel quite rich initially, especially when colder, but as it warmed up a bit, the acidity started to become more prominent to bring everything in balance. There’s still a tight acid core that helps keep things …

Color: Medium to deep yellow. Nose: Gasoline, some fruit. Mouth: Fresh acidity that is well integrated. You can notice the oak but it is extremely well integrated. The aroma is leaning towards tropical fruits and wet stone. Very long and expressive. After a while I'm getting tired of the oak.

Medium to deep straw color. Intense nose of green pineapple, peach, apricot, sage, cloves, wet stone, flint, and petrol. After an hour notes of salty popcorn. Palate of white peach (momo), and apricot. Medium alcohol, medium acidity, medium body, dry. There’s a wonderful round, almost oily mouthfeel. Fresh, salty finish with a lasting note of peach. It definitely has the ripeness from a warmer vintage, but the overall package is well balanced and drinks deliciously now. I could see the …

Rich, dense, youthful nose. Yellow orchard fruit verging on tropical fruit. Grapey, pure. Gun-powder and mineral. Not exactly riesling-typical. Off-dry, medium-fullish palate with generous fruit and high acidity. Orange, mandarin and almost exotic fruit. Medium+ finish. Good grip. Will benefit from 2-5 years of cellaring.

Surprisingly open. Round, full-bodied and creamy. Fruity powerful taste with peach and tropical fruits. Relatively low acidity for being a Riesling from Forst. Very prominent oak. Open for business right now and I'm not sure if Ungeheuer 2018 has the usual ageing potential.

Clear fragrance of salted lemon, mango, yellow stone fruit and a well integrated oak wood note, a hint of vanilla. Smells more like Chardonnay from the New World aged in wooden barrels than Riesling. The picture also fits on the palate - medium to full-bodied, juicy, round and with sweetness from the extract and the wood. Nevertheless the wine is dry according to the label. The beautiful acidity balances this well, the wine offers a lot, has freshness and creaminess …

A German Riesling with a strong dose of vanilla oak? That is likely to start a discussion of style. and I certainly was sceptical. But I admit: I really like the wine. This has tremendous fruit and depth, a gorgeous racy acidity and minerality and a creamy texture normally associated with Chardonnay. The vanilla oak is likely to integrate further with age. This is still extremely young. Certainly a wine to try and add to the cellar. - 93 points

In a tasting of Ungeheuer from von Winning, but with a couple of bottles from von Buhl and Burklin wolf for comparison. Brilliant green-yellow colour. Very open nose dominated by green apples, peach, and a wonderful hint of walnuts. Full bodied, almost sweet attack. Round mouth-feel dominated by peach and pear. The acid structure is kept in the background, but it is clearly there, the wine never gets cloying. The aftertaste is almost tannic, combined with sweet apples and peach. …

yellow gold; enchanting dark smokey minerality / smouldering lignite, resinous pine needles, a faint trace of peach and exotic/mango fruit; the noticable sweetness is impeccable balanced by plenty of extract and a firm acidity, the sweetness actually adds quite a bit of stuffing, making it almost a big wine, again lignite and crushed stones, a bit of peach and apple, but in its core this wine is about minerality; excellent dry Riesling and drinking quite well right now; as an …

From 75cl, excellent cork. "Ungeheuer" is the correct designation. This "monster" Riesling jumps out of the glass with coiled muscular sinewy power; it throttles your tastebuds on the entry with residual CO2 and a tropical-fruit wham-bang-thank-you-mam blast; it presents intense minerality on the mid-palate and goes out with a big-bang gunpowder-smoke-like finish. Big, spunky, adolescent, sweaty wine, which reminded me of mis-spent days and nights many decades ago. If you want the Ungeheuer experience with added refinement, try Bürklin Wolf. …

Champagne gold color out of the bottle. Nose somewhat muted, even with time, however I got fresh cut apple and a hint of brewed hops. Nice Initial effervescence. Light colored stone fruit on the front end of the palate, with ripe apple exploding on the sides and back palate, all held balanced with a bracing acidity. The apple stays lively and strong on the finish, which keeps coming in slow waves.
