Some wines are enjoyed purely because of the company and occasion. This is one of those wines. I'm not a regular drinker of big reds (this one was a whooping 15.5% abv), but when I'm back with the fam in Bosnia, this is a no-brainer. Made from 100% Carignan. I didn't expect it to be so smooth and open at this stage, but going on to 9 years and coming from the warm 2017 vintage, I can understand why it …

Dark purple in color. High alcohol based on viscosity. Nose is dark fruit dominant reminiscent of black cherry or blackberry pie. Chocolate and espresso comes through on the nose from French oak. Palate drinks boozy, first sip was a little overwhelming from an alcohol perspective. Opened up sitting in glass after 20 minutes, but really dominant from a dark fruit perspective (indicative of highly ripe fruit, but I prefer that to stewed flavor notes). Big wine. Drank by itself High …

Pleasure to drink. Decanted for 45 minutes before drinking. On the nose smelled chemicals, tobacco and dark fruits. Tasting brought out the dark fruits. Very easy to drink. Paired with a NY Strip.

Lots of dark fruit on the nose. Full-bodied, nice balance of acidity and tannins. Lingering finish with notes of licorice. Had at BTG wine bar in Salt Lake.

A very peppery full bodied spanish Garnatxa (Grenache). After breathing for a hour or two this ruby red wine is big and wonderful.

Priorat wine fair 2019 (and related events); 5/2/2019-5/9/2019 (Tarragona and various places in Priorat) : Sample from a stainless steel tank. Solvents and then dark fruits on the nose. There were dark fruits, coconut and toffee on the tongue. We thought it was more carinyena driven than garnatxa. Very soft and balanced. It was also wonderfully fresh. Very good wine.
