Eola Hills Wine Cellars Pinot Noir Oregon

This was an unopened bottle from a party. I had no expectations. Added it the cellar for over a year to see what would happen. Turned out to be surprisingly good. Light to medium bodied. Not much complexity but overall a nice drinker. A bit of time in the bottle usually helps.

Was surprisingly drinkable. Nice balance with cherry and light oak flavors. Clean finish. Light pinot unlike some other Willamette Valley pinots. Not sure where others that posted notes about smokey or too tart are getting that. I didn't taste that.

Muted, tart cherry on the nose. This medium bodied wine is lacking flavor and substance. I believe this is reflective of the vintage, as Eola Hills typically produces a good economy pinot noir, and an excellent reserve (at the price of its competitors entry level pinot). Picked this up at a Fred Meyer for $8.99 vs the normal $15 retail. The producer knows what it has from this vintage, and the current economic climate. A big pass...the '06's from this …

Tasted single blind, I swore this was the cru beaujolais. aromas of strawberry and wet stone, with a simple but very drinkable palate of cherry and minerals. My WOTN. I don't know who bought this for $12 on sale, but it sure was a bargain...
