De Saint Gall Champagne Le Selection

The house/ship champagne of Viking cruises these days as they have shifted from Jacquart, drank a number of times on our Mediterranean cruise, got tired and boring, a basic Champagne that lacks any distinguishable flavors, medium body, ok fruit, good bubbles, we had a bottle of the Jacquart on the cruise and it was a big step up.

Delicate. Melts in your mouth. It has developed earthy, caramel sweetness with age that complements the classic limestone and toasted bread scents incredibly well. Lighter fruits, but they are still there and shine through more than with earlier bottles. We loved it!

Very nice overall with lemon, shells, spice, sour apple and dough. Nice value as others have noted.

Maybe not as well rounded as I would have hoped it to be. But fantastic for the price. The fresh green apple and citrus notes shine.

A steal at the Garagiste $20 mystery price.

A beautiful all around champagne. Great balance between effervescence and flavor depth. A winner.

At $22, this might be the best QPR Champagne available. It has a good concentration of yellow fruits and a mellow, medium acidity, complemented by pleasant bready and toasty notes. The quality of the Avize fruits really shines through. While it’s not overly complex, it’s superbly balanced, immediately appealing, and highly enjoyable. Between this and the Le Mesnil, I think I've fallen in love with Champagne co-ops.

Nice bring to a wine night. Easygoing and delicious. Red fruit on the palate and saline, green apple, strawberry on the nose with a hint of yeast.

There is a strong brandy/calvados tone to it which makes this wine quite interesting. Also price - quality ratio is very good.

good fresh notes

5th bottle I have had of this batch from Garagiste and they have been pretty consistent. Medium toast/yeast. Still quite lively. Carbonation is starting to mellow down.

Popped and poured at clubhouse for dinner with Peters and Dickharts. It was John's 80th birthday celebration. Bubbly for our toasts and tasty with crab toast appetizers. A great time was had by all.

Pop and pour. Lovely Avize fruit. Went down fast.

Shared at our Annual Gathering of Johns dinner. All six of us exclaimed at the superb aromas and flavors of Saint-Gall Sélection, accessible and enjoyable for novices and experienced tasters from initial fine froth to wonderful lasting finish. Brilliant accompaniment with appetizer of crab cakes.

Believe this to be my last and best bottle of the bunch. My last tasting note is consistent with this bottle but this one seemed to have a bit more minerality and freshness than the others. Slight toast on the nose with little in the way of effervescence but extremely enjoyable on its own or with our seafood dinner.

Good solid wine, good bubbles , drank on ship in Bordeaux .

Great value. I like this better than a many champagnes I've had over $50. Enjoyable, with some subtlety and complexity.

Good QPR. The front palate is apple and lemon. Nice dry finish. Went great with oysters.

Lean apple and lemon on nose and palate with delicate floral hints. Medium+ weight, better length and textures, ending with a tart, extra brut finish.

Very solid grower champagne. Not a ton of effervescence but love the salinity and slight toast on the nose. Opened up nicely over a few hours.

This is a co-op made Champagne so the QPR should be good. I like it, some salinity, not a lot of fruit, some toastiness.

Nose with ripe yellow apple, some peach and dried fruit, pear, discrete flowery aromas. Good concentration on the palate, foody, not that high acidity for a blanc de blancs. 88-89 p?

2005 vintage

Sure, it's average Champagne. But at $8.99 - looks like Tesco imported way too much and realized they couldn't sell it for $30 in the US - it's a steal. The three years' additional bottle age it's gained from lying around unsold have worked very much to its benefit, adding a bit more complexity and toasty/biscuity notes. Not bad and excellent value for money.

Average uninspiring champagne.
