Montalegre Tinta Amarela Trás-os-Montes

Purchased for $17. Inky black in color. You can def taste the influence of the 13mo in French oak. Sweet dark berries, earth, spice, vanilla. There's an earthy/spice note that makes me think Portugal, but there's that French oak that makes me think "new world". It's a very nice marriage of the two. I can't stop smelling the wine. Good acidty and tannin structure, fresh on the palate. Damson and plum, quiet coral on the nose. After it had been in the glass for a while the black pepper (reminiscent of a good syrah), this became more evident when had with food, complexity expanding the longer it was open.
