Served with Guinness Stew on St Pat’s. Dark purple in color with few visible signs of age in the glass. Dark fruit with notes of cedar and oak lightly applied. Smooth and polished tannins with a plush mouthfeel. The complexity diminished noticeably on the second glass, poured and consumed about 120 minutes after opening, so if you have bottles left, PnP for maximum experience.

Blackberry, chocolate, cassis, licorice; full and intense, rich, very long, showing age, but well shaped and very good indeed

PnP. 15 min. opened up as much as it could. Time To drink/Prime or a little past. Shows some age. Great nose, some structure, minor finish.

Simply outstanding! Opened and decanted 2 hours before having with beef short ribs. Huge smooth body of deep aged blackberrys.

Wow...this heavyweight is still swingin’ a mean knockout punch! Decanted for about 30 minutes before drinking, and it opened up beautifully. Drank with a standing rib roast and horseradish cream sauce, and it is still amazing. More complex than I remember, with a blend of red fruit including sweet raspberries, with an undercurrent of blackberry cobbler. Let this fall over your tongue before swallowing, and you will be amazed by how this beauty dances around. Sorry this was my last …

Opened about 1 1/2 hours before drinking. I don’t think it was over the hill but it is clearly on the right side of the curve. Fully integrated and technically very good. Checks all the Napa Cab boxes. Except the fruit is pretty much faded into the background. This may have been overshadowed by the Staglin (a lot of wines would have been). Solid. Just didn’t wow me. If you have any drink it up.

Second recent bottle of this that was well over the hill. Drink ‘em up. Still decent but seems to be fading quickly.

Needed some time to wake up, and felt partially shut down throughout. Nice, if understated, nose of black cherry and sweet vanilla, but any oak toastiness was long gone. Minimal earth or herbal elements detected. As a whole, it was a bit simple and youthful, considering it’s a 12 year old vintage. Makes up for its lack of complexity with a super velvety, yet assertive palate. A better pairing with braised short ribs than grilled steak.

Pop and pour with splash decant. Ready to drink and peaking (falling flat near the end). The note before says it all. Plums, prune, and menthol. Drink now.

Color me relieved! Opened the first bottle of the 2006 CR Tomahawk about a week earlier to great disappointment and hoped that I had one bottle that didn't make in the cellar. This bottle is what I expected from my friends at Chimney Rock- served with steaks with a pomegranate/ onion sauce, baked potatoes and roasted carrots. Great texture, complexity and smoothness to the wine.

Opened to share with my dad on his birthday. We were all disappointed by the content of this bottle- seemed to have been very oxidized. Hope the other 3 bottles in the cellar have held up better than this one.

After an hour open, first sips were somewhat off. However, more air time resulted in a much better wine. It's a calm cab, don't go here if you're looking for a big, bold, chewy cab.

Wonderful fruit. Opaque, tons of sediment, delicious. Prunes, jam. Don't think this wine has much structure to age very long, but I heavily enjoyed it with steak this new years eve.

A very nice wine. I decanted it for an hour and needed a little more time. This should be better next year.

Very good but not worth the $164 at the vwinery. Great mix of black and red fruits, but the 2009 Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon was superior.

We were a little surprised by the bottle - we love Chimney Rock and were a little disappointed in this. Very little nose and seemed muted. Perhaps a bad bottle.

Aerated and decanted ~ 20-30 minutes; very dark ruby/garnet color; nose with strawberry, hints of grass, maybe even eucalyptus, a little disjointed (?); taste of strawberry, hints of herbs/eucalyptus, some vanilla/oak on the finish; surprisingly moderate tannin, mid-palate, mod-long finish; definitely has promise but still tight, young, integration could be better, I think it could use time in the cellar; probably 88-90 right now (especially given the price), but will likely improve with some age.
