Mac Forbes Riesling EB10 Ginger Rizz

Well this was…crazy. For the most part, it was unlike any wine I’ve tasted, let alone any Riesling I’ve tasted. I suppose that doesn’t necessarily say much for varietal representation but in terms of intrigue this bottle was through the roof! It did share a handful of notes with several other orange wines I’ve tasted lately: peach, passionfruit, pineapple, white pepper, herbs, and tea (lemon, orange pekoe). Cloudy, turbid, yellow/gold appearance. This is good fun. Very savoury with largely herbal aromatics. Went looking for ginger but didn't find much. More fennel, talcum powder, lime zest, apple skin and rockmelon. Feels completely dry on the palate but has gobs of candyish zesty fruit on the mid-palate, balancing nicely with the acidity. Touch of phenolic bitterness in the background which is nice but not distracting. Pretty yum and quite food friendly with the sour and bitter elements.
