In decline, the fruit is fading and it is quite dull. Quite sad really, as it was my last bottle of about a dozen, from different vintages, that I bought for a song at auction in 2013-14.

Consistent notes with 3 years back. As black as it is purple with no real signs of age. Powerfully aromatic purple fruits. Powdery, May be flour, iris root. Firm. Fine tannins. Thoroughly dry. Much interest. A lot going on. Still more to come. The fruit and tannin will carry this. May be leave the next bottle for another 2 or 3 years.

Still purple. Reticent. Blackcurrant. Some kirsch, minerality and a touch of mint on the palette and finish. Grainy tannins. Thoroughly dry. This just needs time and a lot of it.

Still bright and deep coloured though not exaggerated. Nose of boysenberry with some secondary notes. Palate firm but not in any way harsh--almost plentiful but medium-soft tannins. Full-bodied yet almost elegant. This is what I would ideally look for in a Cahors and this wine has 5 years plus in hand.

A fruity syrupy bouquet. Fruity but very tannic, this is currently very austere and needs at least 8 years to soften.

Excellent bottle. Nose has leather, barnyard feel with dark fruits. On the palate it's fruit forward but in a serious way. Quite dense with nice balance and rounded tanins.

Not sure what the deal was with this bottle, but I was pretty disappointed. My brother snuck this back from France, a gift to me. On the nose, entry, and mid-palate, this was a lovely malbec--good dark fruit, plenty of graphite and earth, resolved tannins, balanced alcohol and acidity--but all came crashing down on the finish. To wash down what would have otherwise been a lovely mouthful of wine was a finish of what can only be described as fish …

A very enjoyable, everyday drinker. Great value at this price. Solid structure, plenty of fruit. Best with food, but can be enjoyed alone. Very popular at our BBQs. A friend of mine from France described Cahors to me (before I had tried it), as "poor man's Bordeaux". I collect nice Bordeaux, and drink it on the weekends, but this is one of the wines that I put on the dinner table Monday through Thursday.

A much more subtle example of Malbec than the Argentinian styles that I'm used to. Great nose and a medium finish.

Very smooth and well integrated. Dark and brooding. Very subdued dark fruit with hints of unsweetened cocoa. Dusty tannins with a bit of a bite. A bit reserved and austere but in a good way. Better the second day and so I expect this will improve with time.

Weekly tasting group #035; Southwest France: Cahors (@ WW) : Beautiful bouquet; some maturity, sweet spices, tobacco and tar. On the palate juicy dark fruits, good acidity and bitterness, supple tannin with still a soft bite. It is a surprise that this wine is already a point. Still has a future of several years. Not extremely complex, but certainly a very nice wine.

Quite fruity with red and dark fruits, snooth tannins and a nice milky mouth-feel. A subtle taste of germaline on the front but not unpleasant.

I found blackberry and blackcurrant fruit, vanilla oak and a hint of vegetal (not in a bad way!) character on the nose. The palate was intense, and very savoury. Mainly earthy but with suggestions of spice.
