Last bottle, drank over time by Coravin. This bottle was really excellent. The wine has nicely mellowed and integrated since my previous tastings. The acidity is modest for a Chianti but still plenty to make it food friendly. Paired beautifully with chicken cacciatore. No sharp edges at all, lovely mature wine. Was a steal at $24 on purchase in 2015.

I never had this Chianti before, so I have no base line. It is drinking okay. However, the zingy acidity of a Chianti has dissipated. The fruit is a little toned down as well. It is likely past its best days. Drink now.

Medium ruby colored with medium viscosity (14% ABV). The nose has medium (-) intensity aromas of sour cherry, pomegranate, roses and perfumed lilac. The palate is dry with medium (+) acidity and medium (+) tannins. A medium body gives me red fruit that is tart in nature along with some pretty florals and a hint of oak. This is not a very complex Sangiovese which surprises me considering that fact that it is Gran Selezione. I purchased it after drinking …

Nice aromas of leather, bright red cherry and spice. Medium body, mild leathery tannins, and rope red cherry with some underbrush. Good balance. I don't understand how this is a gran selezione. But a nice authentic style Chianti for 20 bucks. Drink now.

Ruby red color. Strawberry and cherry on nose. Cherry and earth flavors. Grand riserva?

Marmellatina di ciliegie sui generis, potrebbe provenire da qualsiasi uvaggio e territorio. Mancano acidità, sangue e tannini. Dov'è il sangiovese, dov'è il Chianti? Articolo da scaffale ed esportazione.

Bright ruby red. Strong cherry nose with spice notes at end. Relatively fruit forward strawberry and cherry flavors. Finishes cherry notes. Not a sophisticated Chianti Classico, let alone Gran Riserva, but a good value.

Soft and ready to drink without much acidity or tannins. Tasty but lacks vibrancy. I was hoping for more, given its pedigree.

Open, pour. Clean, bright nose with red stone fruits, plumb, cherry, perhaps some rosemary, anise. Typical Sangiovese body (light) with sunlit ruby color. More tart cherry on the palate points to anything tomato, and I can easily enjoy it sipping while waiting for my enchiladas in the oven. Hits above its price point. In short, nothing offensive in this $20 wine, and much to enjoy. Excellent QPR. Will seek add more at this price.

Very tasty with tannins and sour cherries in balance. Finish was short because of that the profile was essentially simple. Yet its an excellent every day wine at an attractive QPR.

It’s pizza night. My favorite pairing with pizza is a good properly aged Chianti Classico. Cornmeal crust, four fromiagio, salami, sausage & black olive. I like the 2010 vintage. This is good & just about on the same par as other 10’s we have enjoyed. It started a little lean, particularly in the mid palate. However, as it blossomed, it filled in with pizza helping as well. The nose out of the decanter was stunningly, perfumed florals. At that point, …

PnV. Deep brick in color. Quite a fragrant nose...highly floral with notes of plums and even honey(!). Light and elegant on the palate....ripe cherries and just slightly tart. Just a touch thin. Enjoyed in a Riedel Vinum Chianti Classico glass at 61F.

Really solid chianti and drinking pretty well now. This has more depth and complexity, as well as bigger fruit, than the 2013 Mazzei we had before it, but it also has more tannic structure. I think it is in the early stages of the drinking window, but there is clearly room for the wine to smooth out some and gain some elegance before the fruit fades. So I will wait 2+ years before drinking the next bottle, assuming I don't …

Enjoyed this wine tonight both before, after, and with a Beef Ragu pasta dish. It is in a very nice drinking window and is nicely balanced currently. I would drink in the next 2-3 years to enjoy the bright, vibrant fruit.

To the eye- Beautiful dark ruby red lightening to the edge To the nose- Sweet floral, mineral- like damp campfire rocks, subdued impression of powdered sugar red fruit pastry, The palate- Brooding sweet, smoky red fruit, rich, unctuous, powerful yet elegant and velvety, complex, long, everything has melted in perfectly-tannin/acidity/concentration, solid medium body. Not to insult any Italian wine fanatics but this wine reminds me of a great Chambolle-Musigny Amoureuse. This is a spectacular wine. I guess proper cellaring is …

SAQ N° 12626764 38$ JS 94 Un chianti Gran Selezione de facture très honnête. Boite à tabac, poli à chaussure, un peu de balsamique. Bouche un peu plus classique et discrète. Un beau RQP pour l'appellation. ***

Popped and poured. Opaque rosewood color. Nose is aromatically quite dense, with scents of kumato tomatoes, brambles, and shoe polish. The palate starts with a tart black fruit flavor before the intense flavor of anise takes over at midpalate. This becomes super tight and tannic on the long finish. Excellent on its own merits; superb value at $30/bottle. 92 today, with risk to the upside after 7-10 years' maturation. Decanting is a must if you're trying to enjoy this in …

Pnp in large goblet wine glass. Dark blood red in the glass with no signs of age. A bit closed, but some tartness/cherry and mouthdrying tannic. On second day, even better with strawberry, balsamic flavors, some spices. Not much fruit other than the strawberry and less cherry on day two. A little bit too hot (alcohol) but otherwise tannins are well integrated enough that this is clearly in the drinking window now. Still has at least a couple years left …

My favorite wine in an evening of tasting 15 wines, not so much for how enjoyable it is now, but how enjoyable it will become. Strong tannin and high acidity, yet still juicy and distinctively concentrated. Way too young to drink now, but demonstrates great potential for future consumption. Tasting it side by side with the 2012 Altesino Brunello that the Wine Spectator rated 96 points and was well textured, fruity, and nicely integrated, the Panzano was the more powerful …

This 5 year old wine is in its young adult stage. Darkly colored all the way to the edge. The tannins are not disjointed from the rest of the wine, but remain firm and drying. The fruit is more forward. And the acidity is beginning to come out of its tart cocoon. On the whole, a very promising wine, definitely enjoyable now but well worth aging longer. Strongly encourages us to purchase more than the 3 bottles we have left.

Presentation of the Gran Selezione (The Carlu - Toronto, ON) : Similarly rustic, but this is marred by some reduction. Nose of chalk, dust, musty attic, rubber, cherries and plum. Palate is ripe, clean, and lightly rubbery. Medium finish. Still good texturally with good acid/tannin balance.
