Quinta da Fronteira Douro Reserva

beautiful dark red color, this is rich, aromatic, showing ripe plums & spices, nice acidity & smooth tannins, all in balance. not as good as the 2011 in my opinion, but still a very nice wine.

Terrible I poured it out Even gave it time to breath!

Nice blend of less common varieties. Nice balance.

See previous note. Quite floral, Touriga nacional dominates. Ok wine.

Fairly typical Douro blend, showing more concentration than a 5 euro bottle, but still lacking great complexity. I thought this wine was a bit dominated by the Touriga Nacional, which is unfortunately often the case with Douro blends. Good nose of ripe fruits, jam, strawberry, cherry, plum, blackberry, floral, violet, black tea, forest. Similar on palate. Ok wine, not exciting, nothing wrong with it though.

Corked.

I used most of this for cooking Chanfana on 4/26/14, but did manage to save a glass for tasting. It had a rich, ripe and heavily oaked bouquet of coffee, smoke, blackberry, plum and spice aromas. The palate was rich, ripe and nicely integrated with flavors of coffee, mocha, plum, blackberry and spice.

Not a great Douro, just average with decent balance.

Nice value portugese vino here...light to medium weight with acid/tannin such that it has backbone, but not over the top. Some dark berry and sour cherry in there. Perhaps a subtle smokey quality. Best served a little cool. Nothing spectacular, solid average and won't disappoint most people.
