Pale lemon; custard (gently oaked) lemon zest, saline; a plushness with a brisk cut & attractive bite; spicy finish, very long. Can be aged but good to go now.

The matchstick aroma from reduction dissipates fairly quickly. Light, graceful, impressively restrained. So full of light and breeziness. Wonderful. Distinguished, serious. Maybe not quite as exciting as previous vintages, but might well just need time to develop a bit more depth. Still a really super wine. So original and attractive.

Hmmm…first impressions were of a spritzy oxidised cider with sulphur on the nose when poured. Let it settle a bit, and it improved, to the point of being ok. Some odd notes for a white, almost brett like (see other reviews below) It was actually not a bad match for the food, which was quite challenging. However, I’m not sure it’s for me. Sipping the last of glass 2 now…bruised apple, a little bitterness maybe, but not unpleasant, fairly long …

Suertes del Marques, Envinate & Ekonomou Wine Tasting (Mr Vertigo) : The wine shows medium intensity, thick dense, concentrated citrus and green apple, earthy notes. Medium palate, medium to high acidity, pear, citrus, light oxidative, medium finish

Medium plus nose is very funky, sulfur tones, fresh earth, bruised pear, yellow flowers, mango. Palate is lighter than expected, fun profile, white peach, mango, banana, acidity med plus, light alcohol, finishes short and it's actually nice in that way, very light lingering citrus. Very fun and tasty.

If this were a red, the sulfur and brett would have us leave the wine for an hour and pray for change. I’ve never had a white that tasted so much like an insipid red ruined by brett, maybe more orange citrus here, but very much rotting rinds in a dirty stable. Slight effervescence. Importer logo says “OPEN YOUR MIND AND TASTE”, to remind us to abandon all frames of reference for great wine in order to find terroir virtues …

SWW - Nowa Hiszpania (On-line) : Very young, with a reductive profile, need some time to decant. Named after a traditional grown system called cordón trenzado. Light white colour, very reductive notes, sulphur, need some time to breathe. Later some aromas of Arabic gum, burn notes. Taste is much better than the nose with a bit of buttery finish. Quite unique.

Unlike my last bottle, this showed no reduction but it also has signs of seepage, which ironically may have helped! Used about a cup to make a Galician garlic halibut and shrimp dish and drank the rest with the meal. Powerfully saline, with tart acidity lemon and spice notes. Has that volcanic pumice rock nose and finishes long, tart and very dry. Unique wine, like everything I’ve tried from the Canary Islands.

Such a fresh and interesting white with delicious flavors of limes, mint and salty minerals. Very zippy acidity keeps it lively on the tongue and the finish is nicely complex with unique notes of sea water and volcanic rocks. What an interesting and quaffable wine with real character. An extra year in bottle has really help this show its colors and it’s quite a wine for $20!

A very unique wine. There is a strong reductive (volcanic?) character to the nose, with sulphur, vulcanized rubber, and pumice. The palate bursts with salinity, albeit showing a bit too much unintegrated oakiness at this point. Finishes tart, salty and long. Will be interesting to see how this evolves. My wife hated this, but I kinda like it, though I am a sucker for geeky wines. Postscript: poured twice through a Vinturi to clear the reduction and this was an …

Upon opening such a characterful wine, brimming with spicy, smoky reductive notes, browned apple and apricot and a salty mineral finish. Couple of days in the fridge and it is even better! Even more mineral, fresher acidity, more fresh apple while retaining spicy, oxidative notes. So delicious!

Golden yellow. Chenin like with honeysuckle, lanolin notes. Unctuous, and full bodied, yet bracing acidity. A really fun bottle- especially at <$25 per bottle.

Salt, smoke, volcanic minerals, matchsticks, and parched herbs. Exceptionally interesting because it's exceptionally different. Not subtle about that difference either.

A private lunch (Restaurant Gijsbrecht, Amsterdam, NL) : A blend of Listán Blanco and Vidueño, with native varieties such as Marmajuelo, Gual, Vijariego Blanco, Verdello, Torrontés and Baboso Blanco. Matchstick nose; tight and linear palate with ripe and juicy citrus fruit, spicy minerality, harmonious and well balanced; floral finish with good resonance and length. Lovely.

Blend of mainly Listan Blanco along with Pedro Ximenez, Albillo Criollo, Gual, Marmajuelo and Malvasia from different vineyards in the Valle de La Orotava. Quite a distinct nose showing gasoline and smoke out front followed by grapefruit aromas and a saline undercurrent. Bright with sizzling acidity and a long, persistent finish.

Canary Islands. Tastes like a cool climate wine. Reductive notes front and center on the nose and moreso on the palate. The reduction overpowers the other elements to a fault, but there is still a lot to like here.

No formal note. Single piece cork. No seepage. Found the wine very unbalanced and oaky. Just purchased 2014 so will compare. Not overly excited by this wine though i love all dry sherries. Just found the oak too dominant and distracting to enjoy the wine. Drink or hold this is not evolving significantly as yet.

Medium gold colour. The nose is in a developing stage, showing medium(+) intensity aromas of yellow apple, dry peaches, vanilla, acacia, cedar and reduced sulphur compounds. It is dry in the mouth with a medium(+) refreshing acidity. It has a medium(+) body and a medium well-integrated alcohol. The flavours are pronounced, with a lingering finish. Very good wine, it has an interesting oxidative/reductive mixed character in the mouth, and definitely the acidity plays a wonderful role in the overall balance …

Not sure if this was flawed. More yellow than I remember the first bottle being and a little oxidative on the palate as well, but certainly not the full sherry. OK on this occasion but not as wowed as the first time.

Quite buttery, and I can see the comparison to a Burgundy, but there is something a bit different. Some floral / herbal notes like a white Rioja or white Rhone but very restrained and with obvious minerality. Unusual but tasty.

Surprisingly deep gold in colour already. Creamy, beeswax - just a subtle citrus fringe in terms of fruit. Really savoury and gastronomic. Lacks the drinkability of the reds and definitely needs food.

A private dinner (Restaurant Typing Room, London, UK) : Medium colour; intense nose, a heady mixture of powerful sulphuric spontaneous fermentation aromas and volcanic minerality; the palate is dry and weighty, masculine, with well-integrated oak, bright acidity, vinous with nice green and yellow apple fruit; good length.
