Bu avec Jean-Philippe - un peu trop vieux

Almost but not quite opaque with some pretty plum at the core and burgundy on the rim. Plenty of plum on the nose with sour and black cherry both adding notes only to be joined by cedar, licorice, saddle leather, and mineral. Those notes carry through with a chorus on the palate. Somewhere a hint of both vanilla and mocha appear on the finish. The mouthfeel is full in a claret sense without any New World heft. The soft tannins …

This is not a bad wine. The tannins have softened, the wine has developed into something quite suave and full-bodied, with some spicy St.Julien notes, the only problem being the fruit, of which there isn't really enough. There's enough grip to hold for a few more years but I can't imagine why it would improve.

Very solid despite its age! Shows no sign of being over the top

I'm quite surprised, i would never have guessed that this was a 2005. A 2013 yes, but...I won't open the next until 2014 at the earliest. (Even though it is highly drinkable now)

Easy drinking, though not at its peak yet. Took a while to open out - initially quite closed, but showing some decent complexity as it evolved

Still quite primary on the nose. Nice velvety fruit, with hints of maturity starting to appear.

Distinctly Bordeaux with a nose of cigar box, cedar, cassis and warm red bricks. The bouquet folds into the palate with each flavor adding a clear voice, the sum being more than its parts with each stepping into the spotlight and then graciously stepping back for the next voice. A finish of roasted tomatoes and cocoa. The lighter body does not distract from the pleasure of the wine. Just as with the first bottle zero sediment. 13% alc. With pan-seared, …

Beautifully refined, open bouquet of graphite, cigar and bitter mints. Clean across the palate ending with ripe tannin and decent length. Really lovely.

Soft and easy-going, this seems to be heading to EOL. The advanced aromatics and dryish finish seem to anounce that it is time to drink the last bottles of this good-but-not-great wine.

I was quite impressed by this. Fully mature with enough backbone to give it a few more years, this is quite an elegant wine that focusses mainly on red cherry and redcurrant flavours, with strong hints of vanilla, but only a smattering of trademark St.Julien spice. The balance is good, the finish is quite persistent and it has an elegance reminiscent of its stablemate Ducru-B. The problem with Lalande-Borie is that it is somewhere in the No-Mans Land between Cru …

Has finally entered the drinking window, acidity, fruit and tannins are in balance.

This was interesting to check again after quite a few years of good cellaring. But alas this is still a bit hollow, there is an oaky shell but no clear core of fruit. 24 hours later it was more pleasant with a kind of plummy sweet fruit emerging. Still mostly a disappointment.

Not very complex, but great balance and with nice fruit. Very old school. After 48 hours of slowox some of the earthy tones are lost and the fruit is just great.

On the nose blackberry and blueberry. Dark fruits and blueberries on the palate. Soft tannins, smooth on the palate, medium body with some acid and lingering fruit.

At full maturity, while smooth and easy drinking, there is no reason to age this any longer, as it now requires consumption.

In such a lovely place. Shows the class and elegance of St. Julien at a modest price point.
