Depressed cork, but it was firm and in very good condition. A bit of a funky and oxidized nose, but after several hours of decanting, it dissipated. Totally tertiary, but still enjoyable to drink, with lively acidity. As expected, the last glass was the best, as this really took well to air.

Low neck fill. Cork decayed but came out intact using Durand corkscrew. Volatile acidity notes on first opening. I decanted this for an hour. It was still thin and lean although the VA went away. Started to taste some light red cherry and it got better over dinner. I should not have paired this with a stew with oranges as it was too tart for this wine. This really needs a creamier dish to do well. That being said, this …

My penultimate bottle from a case. Last bottle was 2019. This is just stunning wine. It needs a decant, but even without much of one it was remarkable. It had some volatile acidity at the beginning but this faded eventually. Fine, clear orange color. Light tobacco notes, plum skin. Fine sweetness. Elegant and graceful. Tons of acidity as you would expect, so good with food. I should have decanted it longer (an hour?) perhaps but it was still so good.

PnP’d and showed at first on the nose pale fruit, overshadowed by a layer of dust and old mans closet. The mouthfeel was a tad better, where one could feel some energy left in the wine. I let the eine sit in the glass, and over the next 30 minutes the wine improved. Tar and anis on the nose, and quite a deeper palate - but still a little pale for this vintage. Ok bottle, that I believe needs a …

Purchased from the RWC in 2017. This is dead, similar to other reviews of this bottling purchased from the RWC. Popped cork. Sat open in bottle for one hour, then decanted for two hours. The air made a big difference, but this is still long past its prime. Bricked throughout. Flavors of brown sugar, spice, raisins, and some acidity. Drinkable as an intellectual exercise, but little enjoyment.

Great looking bottle from RWC. Supposed to be Rinaldi's 1971 Barolo inside this bottling. The nose was ok but the palate was awful. The optimist in me considered whether this could get off the ventilator after some air. The realist in me poured out the rest and moved on. Another shitty bottle of old Italian wine for me...

Deeply flawed. Bummer. I hope my last bottle is OK.

2nd bottle and both were similar....both improved with some air. Nose shows some VA and subtle oxidation but the notes of sandalwood, dried cherry, dried flowers, soy, bovril, mushroom, earth dried blood, iron and iodine. Palate still has some very present cherry, raspberry and flowery fruit which transitions into soy, dried ornge peel, dried porcini, earth, ash and dried plum. Tannins are fully resolved....finish is medium with a bit of lingering acid. Still very much alive but similar to ther …

This bottle withstood the test of time with great grace. So smooth, gentle, and downright beautiful. Given its delicacy, I enjoyed it most between courses (after cheese, before lamb), because it couldn't quite stand up to the food as well as the other, 1968 Barolo did. Of the two, I preferred the elegance of this over the bolder, more acidic 1968.

I opened one of my 3 bottles for my birthday celebration (just me and my wife, as we are in COVID lockdown...bummer). The upside is that I had it all to myself! Cork broken, but quite cleanly, so no big deal. Significant bricking, but with good color otherwise. With time the color actually deepened, a phenomenon I've noticed with other aged wines. Nose was amazing. Dark truffle around the edges, with a core of floral/herbal touches. Graphite and licorice. Palate …

Fwiw, eighth bottle of this wine. Whatever its genesis, an reliably excellent wine, powerful but light, beautiful nebbiolo.

Interesting wine, but way over the top. Brilliant caramel colour. Nose dominated by dry tones, tea and meat bouiilon, as well as some tobacco. Alcoholic sweet in the mouth, no fruit, high acidity, some tar in the finish. The main impression is a wine devoid of fruit, madeirized, and extremely high acidity. Should have been drunk about 20 years ago.

This wine very puzzling. I had the wine this past summer and it seemed like a totally different wine. This wine does NOT appear to be 48 years old. Dark garnet color. Stuctured with good fruit. See finish. Pleasant drink

A friend turns 50 : I'd never heard of this producer, but I am a fan of old barolo and this one was nice. I think the bottle might have been opened earlier and prob should have had a decant for sediment (I had some chunks at the bottom of the glass) but overall it was drinking nicely. Bit more metallic in nature and that crisper structure.

Lovely rose petal nose, cherry and dried cherry fruit, some tar, good persistance. Decanted couple hours before dinner, holds well throughout night. B+/A-

A bit lighter than my last few, but still a lovely Barolo with enough grip and sweetness to keep you coming back for more.

This one consistent with my note from 4/15/2018. Quite good, not at the level however, that a couple have reached.

Outstanding mature Barolo. Lots of bricking at the top of the bottle, much more concentration at the bottom. Still tannic, good balance as there is enough fruit, extremely long. Won't improve but should continue to live for a long time.

Stood up for a month, decanted, after a couple hours really a pretty lighter-styled wine- bright red fruits, dried cherry, rose petal, on the delicate/elegant side of older Nebbiolo. B+/A-

Homage at Travail: Worthy Wines (Travial/ Faux Auriga, Mpls) : Cloudy murky deep brick red color. PNP, drank a glass over 90 minutes. Mature aromas of cherry, fig, funk, dried wood and tobacco leaf, and rose hips. The palate folows suit with that old school, unfined and unfiltered fine sediment laden character and a crushed rock minerality, a more grainy texture and still some firmness to the tannins. Complex and reflective. 92+ to 93pts.

Made by F. Rinaldi and it shows. Beautiful red color that shows as a 10 year old Barolo, not a nearly 50 year old wine. Unlike the previous note, ours improved significantly with air, where a slight mustiness blew off and the beautiful leather, cassis and tar scents came out. On the palate, the wine is nicely resolved but with plenty of energy. Drink now, or in the next decade. Next time, I will open the bottle an hour or …
