Weninger Blaufränkisch Horitschoner

Classic Blaufrankisch fruit profile; I get lots of dark cherry and blue fruit. There’s also some light minerality and a bit of barnyard. The palate shows strong acid, a nice amount of tannin, and actually a bit of CO2. Definitely the most approachable of Franz’s single-vineyard bottlings.

This is the way I like my blaufränkisch/kekfrankos - juicy, tart, with mouth watering acidity and lovely length, without being weighed down by a lot of oak. Very fine. Excellent quality price ratio! as an aside: I tried an earlier vintage twelve years ago and according to my notes on ct I did not think the style nearly as good then, so also tasting preference can change, apparently.

Tart, plain and rather unmemorable Blaufränkish. At 15 euros This was somewhat a disapointment. Would not buy again.

Good fruit, soft tannins, concentrated fruit, a bit harsh, but tasty.
