a really damn good showing from Cayuse. Did not have the heavy tar, bacon fat, and astringent quality like many Cayuse. This was more subdued and I liked that. actually in a really good spot, could go a decade longer or more, but tasting well. I think I like this over the Cailloux vineyard.

Delicious dark berry, mineral, floral, and earthy Cayuse funk aromas with layers of complexity on the silky palate and long finish. Drinking beautifully!

Disappointing. By no means a bad wine, but lacked the glorious bombast and volume that I want from my Cayuse and without compensating secondary notes or vibes.

I wanted to like this more, duh. Upon opening was kinda ok, fruity for a syrah yet had some elegance, maybe 90/91. Aroma smelled like an Oprah Winfrey Dorito fart (sorry couldn't help myself). OK got past that and the more I drank this the less I liked it. Got worse as it breathed. That's unusual. Finish fell off the table and lost balance. Became monolithic. Dropped down to 86 points at best. I added 2 just because on the …

Aromatic scents of blueberry, peppercorn and sweet basil leaf, big, concentrated and deep, carried by a nice body of acid, throws flavors of blackberry, plum sauce, soy, meat juice and gravel across the palate, long finish, still with youthful and abundant fruit, in a really nice place now with potential to continue on path in the cellar, exceptional

Decanted for 2 hours which I felt really improved this wine. There was a smoky, gamey, bacon like element that was very present but not overpowering. Dark fruits including plum and blackberry mixed with some pepper made this very enjoyable. Lengthy finish too!

1. Appearance: The wine has a deep, dark purple color with inky intensity. The rim shows slight garnet tinges, indicating its youth, but with potential for development. The legs are pronounced, suggesting high viscosity and significant concentration. 2. Nose: The nose is intense and complex, revealing the characteristic savory and earthy elements that are hallmarks of Cayuse Syrah. Fruit: Aromas of black cherry, blackberry, and blueberry are dominant, with layers of dark plum and a hint of blackcurrant. Floral: Subtle …

Sigh. This is my last bottle of this lovely wine. So soft and voluptuous; like velvet in the glass with well-integrated tannins and a very long finish. Slight hint of tapenade, but more remarkable for the intense, brambly dark fruits. This is the second day after opening and there's no sign of degradation. If it weren't for three-bottle bundling, I'd be getting this wine still.

PNP, followed for 2 hours. You either like the C-funk or you don't, but beyond that note, it's amazing for it's density, purity, black and blue fruit, herbs, meat/bacon, cacao, tar, and stone. Long, luscious and loads of time, now-2034.

Classic Cayuse funk. Settles and integrates. Reminiscent of a Cote Rotie by hour 4. Mineral driven, funk, balanced wine.

A very good cerise. Solid aromatics of flint earth and plums, a whiff of tobacco. No funk. Harmonious palate with solid acidity. The finish is really excellent - long and savory with a saline quality. On day 2, horse poop comes out more clearly (in a mostly good way). Finish still great.

It's time to dig into cellar to do some 10-year theme vertical tasting: 2018, 2008 and 2012 relative to this year 2022. I have 2018 Cailloux, 2012 En Camberlin and 2008 En Cerise. They all rated 96-98 range by JD. Overall, i think 2012 is in a sweet spot to enjoy right now. 2018 is approachable surprisingly but will benefit for bottle aging for later enjoyment. 2008 is so ready to consume now with more "old school" style. Ageability: 2008 …

Had it 1/21. Drink this now and be impressed! I can’t imagine this excellent wine could ever drink better. Excellent value at 150-ish bucks a bottle. I thought; savory, supple, medium bodied, bordering on femininity(!) cept for the; dark chocolate cherry, plum, boissonberry, musk, muskee, funk, wood mushroom and frog underbelly. Other ratings on here are too low. Put this in a bottle of French AOC and people would say it’s the best wine of their lives. It’s 96+, and …

Last bottle of my 2008's. Very strong Cayuse funk right out of the bottle, which dissipated after 30 minutes. Much more muted for the remainder Has lost some of its density - bricking around the edges and a bit of translucent in color. Solid flavor profile but became a bit one dimensional and slightly astringent after 2 hours. Wouldn't wait any longer on these

-- decanted and consumed over a few hours -- -- tasted non-blind -- NOSE: expressive; primarily meaty, funky, and high-toned; hints of smoke, green bean, fruitcake and cumin bring fun complicating elements to the situation; *extremely good*. BODY: medium-full bodied; garnet color of medium-deep depth with a hint of bricking. TASTE: dark-fruited with a meaty savory quality; smoky rubber; fruitcake; some tertiary elements now present; 14.1% alc. not noticeable. Excellent wine. Drinking well now, but I'd be comfortable holding the …

Decanted for 45 minutes, poured one glass, had the rest the next day, both times with a New Zealand beef stew. In short, superb, though with less "typical funk" than expected, and I suspect this vintage is on the downhill side, probably drinking as well as it ever will. Time to move on to the 2010s.

Decanted 60 minutes. Perfect cork. Slight clear bricking. Wonderfully complex Syrah firmly in its prime drinking window. Deep, dark fruits on both nose and palate. Tobacco, licorice, and olives. Not too much of the Cayuse funk, but an interesting touch of mint and menthol. Richer, but less spicy, than the ‘10 Calloiux we enjoyed the night before. Drink now or over the next 3-5 years.

This was one wine that was opened at the perfect time. Perfect balance of fruit, secondary flavors, smooth tannin and fabulous mouthfeel. Primary notes were of ripe red berries, caramel, bee pollen, tarragon and a hint of tar. Just fabulous on this tasting.

14.1% ABV. This exceptional Syrah opens up with complex aromatics of smoked meat, green olive, leather, stewed tomato and violets. Medium- to full bodied, very refined and graceful on the palate, with plums, black olives, green pipe tobacco, iron and other minerals all in abundance. Very long on the finish, with gentle grip from the very polished tannin. Yet another staggeringly great Syrah from Cayuse that is now squarely in its drinking window. 95.

Deep red. 14.1% ABV. After a couple of hours of air, most of the reduction dissipates, and the 2008 En Cerise Syrah gives off aromas of smoke, black olives, roasted meat and herbs. Medium-bodied in the mouth, loaded with black plums, green peppercorns, iron and very fine tannin. This is a lovely Syrah that drinks well already, but could improve. 93.

Funkadelic. Love the term. WON Adelaide boys wine dinner at John’s on the edge of the sound. Georgeous night. Other lineups included Leonetti Reserve, Mondavi reserve ‘08, etc. food: beef tenderloin skewers and BBQribs dry rub. Mod funk in nose and palate. Full body. Integrated tannins. Good black fruit. Nice finish with all the described nuances. PnP, does not need decant although would not hurt it.

Just not getting the hype with this wine and I guess it is a slighty acquired taste. Funk is the absolute right word here. This has medium body and medium acidity and some lightly stewed red fruits with a kind of barnyard almost field blend quality. I’m pleased I bought this many years ago at a reasonable price as I don’t think it’s a wine I’d search for again.

Immediately on opening, this was showing a tonne of funk, ripe, cheesy, meaty smoky complexity. Ripe and full on the palate with refined, pretty soft tannins and medium acidity. Really tastes pretty mature. After a couple of hours with this, this wine was best right out of the bottle. Complex and interesting, intense but not quite up there with the classics from Cayuse.

Part of the 2008/2011 Cayuse Syrah tasting of the Seattle wine tasting group. Very pruney, raisiny nose which carries a bit into the palate. Note s of coffee, but also more vegetal even green pepper notes. There is some nice acid and salinity to give the deeper flavors a bit of lift. Slightly bitter on the finish.

This nose is FUNKY. This averages a 93 on CT, and after letting it sit and develop I can certainly see why. Kind of had a burned note to me. The nose was a dark, fried black blackberry full extracted wine. Had almost a cigar-box note on the nose. The wine was full bodied, kind of caked up note. had a lot of herbaceousness from the word go -- lots of popcorn, green pepper, red pepper, mushroom. I would serve …

J & K Anniversary Wine Night (Lyon Again) : WOTN. What a doof! I wanted to pull only '09's for our friends' anniversary. I misread the label on this as I was pulling it and never looked at it again, until Joe pointed out my glorious mistake well into "dinner". This was better than our last in 12/12. Double decanted 3.5 hours ahead, this had an amazing combination of open nose, velvety texture, and a great mix of fruit and …

Magenta in color. 14.1% ABV. Sublime nose of cherries, blood, olive brine and grilled meats. Immense, concentrated Syrah that glides across the palate. Just the right amount of acidity. Flavors of smoke, iodine, cabbage and iron. The finish is crazy long. An iron fist in a velvet glove. Drink over the next 4-6 years.
