Ironstone, Old Vine Zinfandel, Lodi

Very rich and spicy.

Vibrant nose of toasty oak and ripe dark fruit. Full bodied, rather smooth, showing a bit jammy and generic dark fruit with some roasted and oaky notes. Silky tannins and bit of heat on the finish. Had a glass at restaurant with mexican food.

Plums, black currant, papper. Excellent concentration. Overall not to much fruty with pleasent tart finish. Very good value.

“Discover California’s Wines”, Wine 11 (non-blind): The wine was medium ruby in colour and offered cooked red and dark fruit, fruitcake, vanilla and smoke on the nose. On the palate the wine showed sweet red and dark fruit, cherry + blackberry yoghurt, spices, tobacco, vanilla and smoke, with medium-level acidity and tannin and superb length of the ethereal and cherry + vanilla + tobacco-infused finish. Smoky great Californian red wine made from the state's classic Zinfandel grape, and offering lusciously ripe black and purple plum aromas. Please, tell me that campfire story again as the smoke swirls around my head and the stars above us on this mid-summer night. Perfect for grilled meats. Ironstone delivers extreme value in the glass at many price points. Pair this blockbuster red with BBQ chicken or ribs. Zinfandel food pairings: barbecued ribs, wings, burgers, spaghetti Bolognaise, aged cheddar.

Weekly tasting group #186; A fully blind test. (@ The factory by MN) : Lactic bouquet with a lot of cherries and some caramel. On the palate a sweet start, red berry fruits, some flint stone, very mild acidity and tannin. Clean and easy going wine.

Noticeably light in color for the grape and the alcohol. Smokey bouquet, followed by ashtray and charcoal with hints of tart black fruit for the first few hours. By the time they (the ashtray and charcoal) blow off and allow fruit sweetness to take over, the wine has really lost a lot of weight. But not bad.
