Simi, Cabernet Sauvignon Landslide, Alexander Valley

This bottle drank beautifully after a half hour od being opened. Tannins and earthy overtones stayed with each tasting. However it began to fade by the end of the evening and was gone the next day. Thanks me to drink up.

Excellent old california cab. Decanted for 15 minutes. Still fruit in the nose and palate. Balancing acids. Tannins smoothed to silkiness. Continued to evolve in the glass. There was a solid fruit-based bottom with subtle cherry and raspberry on top. Good balance. Fine wine from Simi.

Probably could have been drunk a little later. Good fruit and acid. Some of the tannins lost but overall very palatable. Berry fruit, cassis, and plums.

When first opened, the wine appeared to have promise if left to open for a bit. But it did not improve with time. There is too much alcohol and too little fruit left. The next day the wine was not drinkable and was discarded. Disappointing for a 9 year old cab that is the signature wine for Simi.

A total surprise after the last two bottles which were undrinkable. This bottle opened up nicely and presented a mature, well rounded cab that was very drinkable. I did not decant but rather poured immediately and drank . . . the wine left in the bottle was still very nice the following day.

Decanted - no improvement. Let stand for an hour - no improvement. Tasted the next day - no improvement. Reluctantly, I conclude this vintage is beyond salvation and will disappoint all but the most desparately thirsty souls.

Barely drinkable - this bottle had really gone downhill. I have more - will decant next time, but my impression is that the longer the bottle was open, the worse the wine became.

First Night: The cork broke during removal which made me a bit nervous about the bottle. However, upon successful extraction, I was greeted with an aroma of dark fruit, mocha, and forest floor that filled the immediate area. In the glass, it shone a dark maroon. Showing some leg for sure. Lots of cocoa, cola, bramble and wet stone aromas; very complex with solid primary aromas of raspberry and currant. Sweet raspberry with black tea and asian 5 spice on the palate. Supple tannin gives good length.

I picked this up at a bargin bin wagon for $22. Wine was decanted for about one hour and opened up very nicely. The meal was grilled pork seasoned with rosemary. A big red wine with a solid complex body. Nose was alcohol at first but opened an hour later. Strong tannis and red fruit. This wine is ready to drink, enjoy.

Big nose of black cherry with hints of mushroom and earth. Taste mirrors the black cherry nose with vanilla, and cedar cassis nuances. Not as complex as one would hope for, but definitely big! Drinking perfectly right now.

decanted for about 2 hours, I think this probably was not necessary. Lighter in color than most cabs, the lightness carried over to the taste as well. More red fruit than dark, wine was thin, some red fruit, maybe a little leather and a slight wood component. The finish was pleasant though short. Night One Color was surprisingly light for Cabernet, bright ruby but slightly translucent. The nose was a little hot (no surprise, with more than 14% alcohol. It was also bright and fruity, a mix of black and red fruits, cherries and plums, plus a little vanilla. Decent nose. The very front of the palate has some attractive flavors, but the fruit tails off very quickly leaving a short finish that is slightly metallic. I picked this up as an experiment, and don't anticipate buying any more.

Lots of red fruit up front. Waves of fruit, some menthol notes, but some oak too, and tannins all kind of banging around in my mouth. There is a lot going, but not working in harmony right now. Nothing too problematic, but it seems like this could be better in time.

I see others have said drying tannins and i can see what they mean by that. some hints of wet dog on the nose after the wine sits in the glass for a bit. 50-5-6-13-6 Probably a mid eighties wine but i think it is slightly flawed. OK flavors, pleasant nose, little mocha and red fruit. However taste was just "off" somehow, seem disjointed & unbalanced. Hard to describe.

Good nose, color dark purple. Decanted for approximately 1 hour before serving. The wine opened up considerably upon decanting (taste and smell). Drinking - good balance of flavors, tannins are a little harsh and the finish is a little disappointing. Good food wine, probably would NOT drink by itself.
