Potentially great, but I am not sure this is its best moment. It is currently a little hot and not showing at its best. Cherry (griottes), blackberry, bilberry, redcurrant, gentian, thyme, sage, curry leaf. Resolved tannins. Has a touch of génépi even when cool. I would leave for 5 years because it was better 5 years ago on the fruit and now it needs full maturity.

This is unreal. Copious notes of vanilla, butter, and fresh cream layered with a touch of pepper and savory spice. Wow. Such an experience. What great aged Chateauneuf can deliver from a superior house. Magnifique!

After a strange run of very average red wines lately (some prestigious but possibly faulty, some just average) this wine restored my palate to what great red wines can taste like. Perfectly balanced and structured. Elegant but appropriately powerful. Dances on the palate but leaving a firm memory. Red & dark berries, lovely tar wood complexity. Seemingly many years in it.

Savoury nose of raspberry and strawberry fruit, wild thyme, earth, and roasted nuts. Typical Grenache varietal character, but in a more savoury, rather than jammy style. Huge concentration, but the structured nature of the wine presents as a compact and focused palate with prominent and furry tannins. It has not yet hit its plateau of maturity, but is absolutely approachable. This will likely make old bones. Really complex. 95+

I am a huge fan of CdP but I didn’t enjoy this as much as the other vintages I have tried. It was still very good but not quite as balanced. Lovely fruit, but not as smooth as other vintages I have tried and with a pronounced note of oak. Still very enjoyable.

More a statue of a c9dP than a c9dP itself… Nice garrigue aromas, spices, fruitiness but not as voluptuous as I experienced Clos des Papes from other years. Very young. All in all a bit restrained. This is a strange wine in the sense it combines high alcohol with a burgundy elegance, even after almost 15 years in bottle. The color is remarkably deep for a Grenache-based wine, and there are few signs of browning at the rim. Drank on NYE, with cassoulet. It's fascinating to see the differing opinions on this wine. My first bottle of 6 - I was stunned by how youthful it seemed. Deep dark ruby. Big. Too big. And to us, it was quite monolithic. The 14.5 percent admitted on the label certainly shows. We tried to put up with this unfriendly fellow for three nights — and then finally into the refrigerator most of it went, and eventually into a sauce. Big nose with licorice, kirsh and a bit of forest undergrowth. Full bodied, tannic and with a nice balancing acidity but a bit too much alcohol pushing through. Long. It has improved from my previous notes in 2017, but in my opinion it needs more time. Sadly, this was my last bottle, so i will not be able to see its full potential. This is an impressive wine of excellent quality, but a bit over the top for my preferences.

A little hot. Tannins still more grippy than I would’ve expected, so could’ve maybe gone another year. I get blackberry and tobacco on the nose but it’s fairly tight... more blackberry and black currant on the palate, herbal (sage?), with a little leather, black pepper, dark chocolate, wet granite, a hint of cherry cough syrup.

Popped and poured. This is a medium red wine. On the nose, I get raspberry, bay leaf, wet river stones, and some herbs. In the mouth, the wine is nicely integrated, melding red fruits with a cast iron note, which the finish pulls into cherry and licorice sensations. Overall, this is a solid CdP, one that is holding up well and probably has room to stretch out a bit more. 90 points.

A lighter CnP entry; it placed 6th in group vote, but I placed it higher. Good balance, and integrated very well for its age. I enjoyed the smooth transitions from entry to mid-palate to finish. A grand wine for the price of entry, $40.

Starting to drink from that outstanding year in Europe, 2010. This CnP is on the lighter side, but still a great blend w/ 80% Grenache. The integration has progressed well with the Grenache becoming very even that flows easily into the middle palate with the minority grapes. I found that this wine pairs extremely well with Brillat-Savarin, a combination that I would not have guessed prior to trying it out.

Haven't had one of these in over 3 years, so decided to pop one open on a cool February evening. Decanted. Initially the wine held back, but by the second glass was coming into its own.
