Re-tasting this, there is lots that reminds me of Riesling in a dry style: A limey nose, with elevated aromatics, clean strong acid, and a slight hint of what I might call botrytis. BUT, what really separates this is a distinct wet-wool "lanolin" note from Chenin. Overall the aromatics are not as noble or bright or aristocratic as a Riesling. Monday night Blinds at Nopa - Take 5 (with AL) (Nopa SF) : Clear, day-bright, lightly concentrated copper with reflections of green and yellow. Some signs of gas, no sediment. Moderate tearing. [palate is dry] Nose is clean, elevated in intensity. Predominantly savory with ripe lemon, underripe peach/stone fruit, damp wool / lanolin with a burnt character. Earthy, and a bit metallic.
