Gerd Stepp Pinot Noir

Not a big nor complex wine, but I like it nevertheless. Initially the nose is dominated by roasted oak, coffee and gun powder. After a while the sour berries and sous bois takes over. Sour cherries, cranberries, lingonberries, raspberry candy. There is also some hints of green, as in fresh shoots from spruce. Distinct acidity and light bodied with a dry, but not tannic finish. Decent intensity and a good quality wine. The crowd did not like this.

2nd time I had this, this time in a London restaurant. Impression pretty consistent with last time, maybe a little more one-dimensional on the nose but a good match to the Asian-fusion style of food. Fresh and light with good acidity, very fruit-driven, not too complex.

Pale garnet in colour. Pure, ripe red fruit, forest notes, menthol, spices and a very nice herbal character on the nose. On the palate, round & velvety, good character of fruit, quite fresh & acidic but very round and smooth. Neither very complex nor long, but well made, rather light-bodied and subtle. Good QPR for German Pinot Noir, should improve with a bit more of bottle age.
