Retail $45. I bought this nearly a decade ago online and I had pretty much forgotten about it in my cellar. St. Innocent is a pillar in the Willamette with Mark Vlossak founding the winery in 1988. Known for its earthy, location-driven style, St. Innocent has never been a huge producer, thus, I have only tasted a handful of their wines. This bottle? While the 2008 vintage received all the accolades, I have preferred 2007, a more "classic" Willamette vintage. …

Popped and poured. Nose dominated by SO2, palate reductive, so decanted. Still the same 45 minutes later, so I returned the wine to the bottle bottle to revisit the following day. 16 hours later this was still very closed and barely accessible. Same another 6 hours later, time to give up.

Friday evening "Bring what you want" (Kevin and Vicki's house) : I believe this was slow O'd for about an hour. Vibrant, rich fruity nose. Orange rind, cranberry, sweet baking space. This wine really commands attention. The nose is slightly nicer than the palate, but the palate is no slouch either.

Last Minute Friday WTDS (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)) : Medium red with light bricking on the margin. Splash double decanted and served immediately. Drank 2 glasses over 2 hours. This was beautiful tonight. I'd sat on this last bottle for about 6 years. The first one was good, but clearly youthful and there was more in store. Like most the '07's this has some longevity in store for it if there are bottles out there. I was mesmerized by …

I enjoyed but the wine was not wonderful. Was austere at first. Finally opened up. Best with food. Had with vegetables.

This become friendlier earlier than I expected. Starting to move into a very nice drinking window. Aromatics are showing flowers, spice and darker red fruits. The oak is nicely mixed. The wine is clean and fresh. The finish has a little bitterness when tried without food.

Phenomenal nose, acidity, textures, and balance. Not much change from last tasting. This blew away an 07 St. Innocent White Rosé had recently.

Dark garnet color. Poured two glasses 30 min before serving & let the rest breathe in the bottle. Layered nose with a mix of red fruit, clove & earthy truffle. Medium bodied, high acid & showing good intensity. Tart cherries & more earthy components persist through the mid palate. A surprising amount of tannin, and just a little oak influence on the finish. This really put on weight with air and is an excellent example of the 2007 vintage. This …

Drank over two nights, with and without food. Medium to dark maroon color. Thin, fast forming legs. A very lively, energetic and vibrant nose - sour cherries, a little oak and some wet earth. All of this energy carries over to the initial palate. There's lots of acidity, yet there's also well-concentrated fruit that shows up on the back palate and helps balance everything. Great food wine (I paired it with sushi and it actually worked rather well). A little …

A little thinner then I typically like my pintos, but not bad. Just didn't "wow" me.

Popped and poured - ideally, needs a few hours in decanter. Beautiful nose of rose petals, damp rain forest, cherry must with some barnyard. Great vibrant acidity, high toned fruits, forest, mushroom broth, and wet pine tree. Acidity softened but tannin increased with air time in glass. This wine is outstanding and will only improve. This has improved since an 07 Oregon Pinot tasting of 12 wines 18mos ago. Am actively seeking more.

Purchased this wine at the winery a few years ago and stored in ideal conditions. Cranberries, wet leather and a hint of manure on the nose. Taste is similar to the smell. My wife and I were so surprised that we had a few people come over to compare with us and we ended up with a unanimous verdict. I'm not sure what we were thinking when we bought this at the winery.

St. Innocent Tasting : Good but not great. Raspberry, spices, floral and pepper. On the finish picks up a wood quality. Medium finish. Drink now as I don't see this evolving much.

E&R's Pinot Noir-egon Weekend; 4/24/2010-4/25/2010 (Portland, OR) : Totally smells like straight pickle juice... vinegar, meaty pickles... More of the same, with an intense sweet pickle on the palate. Strange acidity present as well. On the finish it's quite a bit more balanced with nice acidic, tart red fruits. Still, a strange wine.

Had this wine at Acacia midtown on Sunday, March 14th - it was served with braised veal cheek, artichoke and yukon gold mash, tomato black olive sauce. The food and wine went together well. I liked this wine- lots of cherry fruit, medium bodied, long finish. I bought 3 bottles

The nose is earthy verging on stemmy, extremely shy in the way of fruit, floral in a flowery way...light to medium body, high acidity, sharp, verve, roses - hard to define as this is one big mouthful - full of acidity. Verging on lean...hmmm, more notes after air...not much change over the course of the evening.

Purchased at a local restaurant, no decant. Beautiful perfumed black cherry, wet earth, tart cherry, oak. Well-balanced acidity. Medium body. Improved as the wine got air. Delicious. Went well with salmon and greens. Wouldn't buy again at the restaurant price ($65), but worth the normal retail price.

Minneapolis Does St. Innocent (Edina Country Club): Medium purple. Nose of raspberry, floral, cherry and spices. Light concentration on the palate but nice with spice, floral, cherry and forest floor. Medium finish and a bit of oak and vanilla emerge. Solid overall and it might improve a few points. (31 views)

St. Innocent Mini Tasting (Edina Country Club, MN) : Nose: Clay loam and red fruits with violets and a little funk on the finish. Palate: Good acid and red fruits with some subtle mushroom and earth showing. Very nice and elegant with good subtlety. While 92 points today this easily has 93+ point potential with age IMO.

The Vineyard Lunch Gang Has A FreeForAll - Dec 18, 2009 : Decanted for about 2 hours. I wanted to give this a try despite the Freedom Hill Vineyard leading me to believe it would be backwards at this stage. Glad to see Mark V. designating something his wine-makers cuvee. Hopefully it will be what he wants. As expected this was fairly un-giving at this stage. This is never going to be a fruity wine. The earth and herb based …

Friday at Jason's Office (Jason Hagen's office) : Stemmy nose with potting soil notes. Tight palate. Shows good balance and tannins but not giving up much on the day. Apparently no stem inclusion though. The winemakers say the stemmy notes are part of the terroir of the region.

I agree with the previous note, that this wine smells and tastes green. It is sour on the palate and the moment, and it smells that way too. Not really pleasant to drink right now. This may be underfruited and underripe, but it may just need time too. I've seen plenty of Burgundies show this way when shut down. Left half the bottle to try again, will update.

Tasting in the Eola Amity AVA (Willamette Valley) : Green bell peppers and some dried wheat grass on the nose. Some fruit, but green again, and drying tannins on the palate. There's greenness present throughout the finish accompanied by spice.
