Certainly not past its drinking window, this bottle purchased at auction was in fine condition. The nose blends quickly into the mid palate where the fruit shines. This is a Grand Cru after all and is worthy of complementing a fine meal

1 hour decant and drunk with simply cooked rump steak. Pale to medium garnet and mushroom and earthiness on the nose, but also some typical pinot cranberry character. Wine was clearly made with light extraction, allowing the quality fruit to do the talking. First taste reveals silky tannins and very much tertiary fruit flavours along with the earthiness. The wine still has adequate acidity. Only criticism is something lacking on the mid palate. The finish is long and the last …

55F since acquisition at release. Red juicy fruit aromas jump at corkpull - never a bad sign. Nose of lightly oven roasted and concentrated sweet strawberries , sweet raspberries , and sweet red cherries along with orange juice and orange oil and then menthol and fragrant fresh flowers and a touch of Asian dry spices. Juicy creamy silky tea leaves - spicy bitter drying tannin finish. Extraordinarily compelling wine on the basis of the complex precise panoply of aromas and …

Beautifully balanced and poised. Given the first note it seems this wine has had hell of a ride. But it’s completely in harmony now with elegance and no obtrusive oak can be felt on the nose or palate. Probably at or close to peak. Drink within next few years, but still requires a bit of aeration to open up. Another Laurent wine that is delivering significant value and pleasure.

1985 Las Cases vs Clos du Marquis : Started off in a more elegant and lighter fashion, with a spice note that led me to Vosne. The oak on Laurent wines integrates very well but it is always this spice note that made me guess Vosne every time I am blinded I think! High acid at the start that made me think 1996 but with the signature red fruit of 2002 emerged with time. Another very good Laurent wine again, …

Very enjoyable. Young and in need of at least 5 more years of cellaring. Red fruits, a touch of oak, and lots of spiciness. Serious and firm on the palate. An impressive wine that should improve.

Best showing of this wine. Complex aromas of earth, barnyard, and dried herbs. On the pallets gripping acidity, red fruit, sour cherries, and good links and concentration. Find tannins, with the oak now fully resolved. At peak.

Very nice tonight, red fruit profile, quite floral. One of my fellow drinkers (who was tasting this blind) liked it but said it wasn't very Bourgogne-like, which is a fair assessment. Felt more like an elegant Barolo. Still - quite good.

This has come together very nicely, and the oak is fully integrated and unobtrusive. Notes of sous-bois, red currants and sour cherries. Nice acidity and sweet fruit, accompanied by fine, gentle tannins. Lovely right now and over the next 4-5 years.

Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Knightsbridge - Northbrook IL) : Tasted double blind. Clearly from Burgundy, but i thought this older, thinking 1998 or 1999. Fun and easy to enjoy but somewhat indeterminate in terms of appelation, which didn't surprise me when unveiled as from D. Laurent.

A big boy. Lovely fruit mixed with intense, complex and lightly wood driven texture. This is just a baby in its development and will make a great bottle in 10 years. Is has great stuffing. (93+)

Quite deep ruby and saturated for Pinot. We only gave this an hour of air before tasting and drinking. An interesting but exasperating hide and seek game in terms of wood influence. Promising start with deep blackberry, meaty, cinnamon aromatics with excellent fruit and only a trace of oak on the finish. Then, rather green, astringent wood took over the nose and palate. Next, a brief window of purer, cooler, stonier tones reminiscent of 2001's. Finally, an overripe aspect, again …

Subtle nose of dried red fruit, cinnamon, menthol and strong vanilla, palate followed the nose but even more vanilla, smoke, sour but minty cherry red fruit, not an ager but slutty good
