Huh! This 750 was SIGNIFICANTLY better than the magnum I had a couple years ago. That's probably because this was bought on release and stored perfectly the entire time and the magnum was an auction buy. Provenance matters boys and girls! Raspberry and brambly red fruits along with baking spice and pepper on the finish. Zero heat and drinking very young for a 20-year old zin. Definitely drink now and enjoy if you're holding as this aint getting any better....but …

decanted 30 minutes after opening. Showing black plums on the nose, stewed prunes on the palate with the high acidity. After 1 hour in the decanter this was pretty fragrant. Smooth on the palate but still got the concentration. Ripe and jammy black fruits on the nose, with fragrant vanilla notes. Drinking reasonably nicely.

From magnum. Still good but certainly on the decline. Muddled raspberry and strawberry with a tiny bit of heat on the finish. Drink now before that heat becomes more prominent.

Still going after all these years. I often am disappointed with WS wines not holding up, but this one sure has. Still big fruit mixed with nice notes of nuanced age. Drinking well now, but no particular hurry with this. It will continue to evolve for at least a few years.

Brought to BT's old vine offline. I thought this was fantastic. Still quite a bit of life. Shows the old vine fruit, with layers of flavors, like baked goods, blackberry, a little leafiness.

A great match for lamb chops. I find that old Zinfandel is like old Brunello in that they have much more character and finesse with age - to be sure they lose a little spice but that’s more than made up by the integrated tannins and cherry chocolate goodness. 92pts

Exceptional bouquet. Mouth coating complexity that lingers forever. Mid palate combines dark fruit and spice......and a brightness that caught me by surprise.....then the tannins wrap around your mouth and hold the flavors there for a long finish. Brilliant effort. Bravo!

Exceptional Zin with amazingly bright, dark fruit for a 2004. The mid palate is complex with minerals and spice and the finish is extremely long and smooth. A very well-balanced, elegant Zin and a true delight to drink.

Red in color. 14.9% ABV. Black fruits, anise and pepper on the nose. Medium body with a touch of acidity. Black cherry, blackberry, raspberry and plums on the palate. This wine has lost its baby fat and has developed into an exceptional claret style Zinfandel. The finish is long, spicy and supple. Drink soon.

Very clean tasting, good red (strawberry and raspberry) as opposed to black fruit, not too oaky. The community drinking window has supposedly closed, but this bottle tasted fresh and was delicious with baked ham.

Wow, so very good. Past its prime at this point yet still exhibits many of the qualities that decree it one of the best examples of Zin to be found. Crimson colored with a nose clearly giving fruit of raspberry and blueberry, with just a hint coming of alcohol and heat. lots of raisin, maybe a little black fruit. a little bit of soy-sauce/earthiness, then a bit of oak. Pleasant, but one dimensional. More cocktail wine than food-centric. Didn't change much after an overnight. Drink my other bottle now. 1/11/09 Second bottle was very thin, not quite astringent, but on the verge of going bad. Drink 'em if you got 'em.

NYC Emery Orchard resto--gobs of huge blueberry and raspberry fruit, but there is a strange acidity/apple-grape juice thing going on that again makes this seem 1-D to me. A definite crowd pleaser, with soaring fruit and sweet oak (a lot), but I am not a huge fan.

OK but not great, I was a bit disappointed especially in comparison to the Carlisle Tom Feeney. Where the Carlisle was exhuberant, this was flat. Not poorly made, but not worth the freight. Maybe it just needs some bottle time.
