I've bought 6 total of these over a couple trances. I think I've slightly enjoyed previous btls more but still drinking quite well. Decanted for 3hrs prior to dinner & served in Riedel BDXs in the high 50s/low 60s. Upon opening it displayed more tannin than expected so the decant was a solid decision. Overall, a very pleasing example of 25yr+ Margaux. Aromatic & elegant with lovely balance. 2 more left. I'll drink my next around 2030.

Still very enjoyable, but a tad less so than earlier bottles a few years ago. Plenty of mostly red fruit now, with some blackberry midpalate, but becoming a little stodgy, and dare I say it, borderline syrupy, which sadly mirrors What I read recently by Ian Amstad. I hope I'm wrong but the lack of freshness is a little worrying for my remaining bottles.

Decanted 1740. Poured 1900. Deep garnet colour, verging to dark brick-red at rim. Upon pouring, cocoa notes and copious fruit from this ripe vintage, but still showing some Margaux character. After one and a half hours, the new barrique struts its stuff and the fruit takes on a roasted quality. The palate initially has something of the expected Margaux femininity, but once the oak gets going - which it does too intrusively - the fruit slackens-off, losing both precision, depth …

Popped and transferred to carafe for sediment (which wasnt much) Lovely classic nose promising a good evening. Very mature with lots of tertiary aromas. Acidity and tannins almost gone. Drinking good now and probably will for some time. But wont improve.

Tenth bottle from a full case purchased at auction in 2008. Pristine condition, perfect level and cork. Not decanted, opened two hours in advance. Mature but lively appearance; trs Margaux on the nose, immediately open and attractive, wonderfully floral, cedar and gravel, soft red berries and blackcurrants, hint of cola, good depth; flowing and lithe palate, fresh and well-balanced, energetic minerality, lovely hint of fruity charm, light but still grippy tannins; dried fruit on the finish but also a hint …

Classic tertiary smell, red, not browning, plum coloured rim, medium weight, perfectly balanced, youngish tertiary palate, medium short length. Will keep for some years. Amazing for what is generally regarded as distinguished but not one of the greats.

This bottle seemed a bit funky when I opened it. So judgment witheld. But it seems soft and a bit stewy. Not bad, but not great. Day two it was much better. Not huge fruit, but really nice complexity and liveliness.

It has beeen in my cellar for a LONG time. Needed decanting and time to open. Pleasant, easy to drink, very clean. The nose came out in about 30 minutres. Nice wine.

Wow still young. Opens a bit after 2 hours of air but still relatively tight . Light blueberries, cherries, a bit of leather, hint of tobacco. All very subtle and integrated. Will get more pronounced ocer time as its still a bit asleep.

Ninth bottle from a full case purchased at auction in 2008. Pristine condition, perfect level and cork. Not decanted, opened four hours in advance. Mature but lively appearance; lovely nose, completely classical for a mature Giscours, flowers and cedar, red berries and blackcurrants, gravel, good depth; elegant palate, more rondeur and charm than the previous bottle, fresh and well-balanced, gentle tannins; complete and flowing finish. Delightful, ready.

Unchanged from that drank 5 years ago. This one is truly solid.

One-hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. Some sediment in both the screen and affixed to the interior of the bottle. Otherwise, wine's note was same as my tasting note of 9-28-2024. This wine is drinking wonderfully but has some years left.

Lovely Margaux florals and flavors. Popped and poured through Vinturi. Wont improve so go for it!

I had a bottle from the same friends case in mid-24 and I really didnt like it. My note then: Rich and very ripe, with cassis, cherry fruit, sweet shop confectionary and a little bit of a gloopy texture. Well this bottle was significantly worse than the last one. Not that it was flawed in the technical sense, but it was over-ripe my note said sur-maturite, while a fellow diner described it as over-cooked. It was very lush and …

Decanted for about 30 mins. Evolved in the glass further. Initially showing lots of green pepper but that blew off and revealed a really well rounded and integrated claret. Wonderful wine likely at its drinking apex.

Aromas and tastes of funk, stewed prunes, blackberries, cherries, smoke, cigar box, and spice. Its fully developed and really drinking well at this stage. Needs 2 -3 hr decant

Christmas Day wine with homemade Prime Rib - Goodness. Exactly what you want with aged Bordeaux. Cork was very fragile and ended up breaking in two, but I made it work. Fragrant with leathery dark fruit depth upon opening. Palate still had dried fruits, with resolved tannins, soft mouth feel, tertiary complexity, and well integrated acidity to round it out. Very very nice. This is really in a good place. First 1-2 hours it was in the zone, hour 3 …

40th Wedding Anniversary Celebration - Round 1 (Meritage, St. Paul) : Small pour. I've had this several times before, but not for about 6 years. This has really hit the spot now. Showing just great, gorgeous fruit, dark and savory. I loved it - thanks D & D!

Has the 2000 acidity and tannin structure but missing some fruit. Would say that this is at peak.

One-hour decant through old-fashioned cheese cloth. A decent amount of sediment was left in the fabric. Muted black fruits and a strong Bordeaux funk upon decant. Wine was clear; deep ruby bowl lightening to an amber rim with a moderate clear halo. After resting, the funk had diminished significantly but not completely. Muted black fruits and some cedar. In the mouth: silky smooth and muted fruit. Classic aged Bordeaux! Long finish of the same. Excellent companion to steak au poivre.

Lovely wine for filets in a gorgonzola-bordelaise sauce. Immediately appealing and complete upon opening, but I decanted anyway. As it turned out, no sediment to require that and it was actually a fraction less interesting (the tar and leather elements flattened out a bit) an hour later.

I don't drink a lot of Bordeaux but this felt a little lacking in fruit. It's well balanced and extremely soft, which I hear is because of the high proportion of Merlot here. There's just enough acidity to get by but again lacking the fruit to make it feel complete. Naturally, lots of tertiary notes here with tar and leather.

More advanced than previous bottles. Cork seemed sound, so Im not sure if this was representative.

Mrk granat, nstan ogenomskinlig. Ganska feta gardiner (13 procent). Stor doft med rda br, jordgubbar och smultron. Sedan trnger multna lv, svamp, lapsang-te, lder och ljus choklad in. Medelsyra, mrkbara men mycket finputsade tanniner. Rdbrigt och rtt piggt med mindre ldersnojor n i smaken men nd lite hstigt. Lng eftersmak med varma br, choklad och liten bitterhet. Riktigt gott.
