Syrah vs. Shiraz (Cellier Wine Shop, Athens, Greece) : Medium to dark ruby. Sweet, yet somewhat restrained nose with clove, cinnamon, vanilla, berry jam and the usual raisiny elements. Full-bodied with firm tannins, rich fruit but just a bit hollow mid-palate. Long aftertaste. Good but not fully justifying its price.

Syrah Tasting at Avantis Estate Winery (Evia Island) : This is the estate's flagship wine and one of Greece's icon wines, produced at only 1000 bottles a year and retailing at 45 to 50 Euros a bottle at the local market. Very dark purple. Somewhat restrained nose with focused aromas of dark chocolate, blackberry and bluberry jam, sweet spices, fruit cake and some meaty scents.
