This was a fantastic wine. A great nebbiolo that had depth and was explosive on the palate after around 45 minutes of air. The wine had traditional woody, grassy, peppery notes on the initial phase, but the fruit really dominated on the backend. Very nice red fruits that were perfect at this point, but can easily go another 3-5 years and could really develop into something even more meaningful after.

Very much a "traditional style" Barbaresco. Ripe strawberries, ripe raspberries, ripe red cherries, old wood, mushroom broth, blood, tallow, juniper and block pepper on the nose. Smells beautifully complex, with a high intensity of aromas. While there're some obviously tertiary aromas, the fruit is still super ripe. The palate is a little more herbal and less animal, though just as interesting. It loses the blood and tallow; but adds flavors of bay leaf, anise and sage. The primary flavors are …

Brickish-orange in color. Gorgeous aromas of candied red berries, dark florals, baking spices, orange peel and hint of roasted fennel. Palate shows sweet and spicy red fruits, good acidity, firm tannins and a long perfumed finish.

Still very tannic, lots of life left. Only thing is that it feels maybe just a touch - a touch - modern. This was the era in which Paitin was retiring its barriques. I'll be honest, I can't tell if it is the actual suggestion of oak or just the knowledge that they had some that makes me think it. Regardless, it's pretty darn good and as a testament to a 20 year old wine, dragged to many apartments and …

Surprise from the cellar- Slow ox'ed for 3hrs. Wine pours a med garnet, intense, developing aromas of cherries, cherries everywhere dried, ripe, sour and sweet, dried strawberry, rose, anise, smoke, pine needles, black tea, crushed rock, forest floor/sous bois-funk, lamb's leather, game, tobacco, and potpourri. In the mouth, the wine is dry, med +/full body, high acid, med + tannin, high alcohol, intense in the mouth with a long finish. Overall, very good/outstanding, can drink now, but will hang out …

Wow this beauty has aged well and delivered a slew of red cherry, raspberry flavors and the most silky tannins I have tasted in a while. The nose was a brooding deep red/black cherry concoction. Served alongside a nice Chianti and a Langhe nebbiolo it was easily the wine of the night. The wine kept evolving for several hours after decant. Made this Italian dinner at a friend's home even more special. 2005 may not have been a great year …

Subsequent notes on this wine from about 5 years ago. Medium ruby red in color with slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe red fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries & raspberries with herbs, tobacco, tea, mint, some cocoa, minerals & a hint of cedar in the background. Medium-full bodied with a good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, cranberries & strawberries with herbs, minerals, cocoa & a hint of …

Translucent ruby scarlet. Nose of scintillating black and red cherry, rose petal, and faint tar. Layers of dense black plum and currant on the palate cut with asphalt and earth. Freshening acidity and firm young tannin. Hints of oak which quickly blow off. Long finish of black plum, earth, and tar. Young and accessible with air. A long, positive evolutionary road ahead.

This is drinking very well. 1 hour slow ox and then another hour in the glass before it opened up. Trademark roses and leather on the nose and good balance on the palate. I’ll be looking for more of this one.

As they say"drinking well now." Complex nose with tobacco, liccorice and a hint of sweetness. The spice persists and is joined by a hint of citrus on the finnish.

This could be a lack of appreciation on my part for the Nobel Nebbiolo grape but, it lacked depth and complexity. We opened it with Italian sausage and stuffed shells which should have been a great fit.

This was terrific, but might have benefited from longer decant (Pnp and drank over 2 hrs). Still quite young with lots of vibrancy up front and long finish. Mid palette started to emerge toward end 2 hrs, with some subtle secondary flavors. Apparently these are long lived wines!

Wieder Weichseln, Marzipan, etwas Unterholz, rauchig. Im Moment voll „im Saft“. Grossartig, wer gerne sexy/druckvolle aber doch Reife Weine mag sollte jetzt eine Flasche öffnen.

First one of these in almost three years. No longer a tannic monolith, it is now finally mature. Still needs at least one hour of air to open up. Absolutely bone dry on the front-palate, but fleshes out nicely on the mid-palate, where its ripe cherry and raspberry fruit gradually emerge. Finishes very long and complex, with lingering notes of oak, tar, menthol and black licorice. Still slightly chewy, but the tannins have integrated very well. A wonderful Barbaresco that …

I thought this was excellent, and very young still. While it is certainly big and tannic, I disagree that the fruit isn't up to the structure. This probably needs another five years minimum, ten would be better, and there's no reason to think it couldn't go 20 or more. Served with mushroom risotto and Osso Bucco.

Tough going here. Really hard with plenty of acidity to boot. Raspberry fruit, some floral notes. The fruit will wash out before this massive structure yields. I love tannin as much as the next guy -- but, this is really in long over-brewed tea territory. I say, drink up.

Decanted for 1h. Cherry liquor, underbrush, sandalwood. Lean with firm tannins and high acidity. Sour cherry, botanicals, leather, licorice with a dusty finish. High alcohol. Still young, but I had it in the past and after it had been open for 8h it was much more approachable.

Ja, wollte das wiedermal probieren... 2009 ist jetzt sehr schön zu trinken, die sexy, heisse Frucht ist perfekt, toll integrierte Tannine, stützende und für den Jahrgang überraschend frische Säure. Tolle Länge. Hat kein Ewigkeitspotential also trinken, trinken, trinken!

Decanted and tasted over several hours. Translucent light to medium ruby. Nose is floral, cherry and spice. Palate is bright but textured and still with some tannic grip and flavors suggesting cherry, rosewater, leather and baking spices. finish is short to medium in length. It should develop further over the next few years. I thought this tasted best in the first 1-2 hours.

This obviously a very well made wine but it it still too young to provide a proper score. High acid & tannins with dark fruit. Will try again in a few years. 2021 Update with the second bottle. This wine just needed some time. Delicious well balanced fruit, tannin and acid. Very food friendly and delicious. Fruit underpinned with leathery earthy tones.
