Aussie Night 2.0 (Buellton, CA) : Impressive intensity and precision, easily besting the 2017 Jansz Rose. A touch too much sweetness for my taste began to emerge, and this is not something I would reach for very often, but it was a fine intro to Tasmanian sparklers.

Bottle flawed? Severely less taste than previous, quite dull, acidity close to gone. One more of this vintage left - will see how it turns out.

Surprisingly good bubble wine. Well balanced without huge complexity. Tasted blind, it was difficult to locate. Not exactly Champagne, but definitely cold climate with citrus, grapefruit, yellow apple flavors and some slight toasty tones. Not as chalky as champagne and rounder fruit. Overall well made and refreshing

Probably one of the best non-champagne sparkling wines I ever had before (and the most expensive). Have had sparkling from Tasmania before. I enjoy them. Boiled pasta, dry piri piri, cooked lobster on the nose. Very close to champagne character. On the palate the wine has a good attack. Dry, clean and fresh on midpalate with small hints of grapefruit bitterness. Lichie, lemon juice and cooked lobster. It gets rather obvious that this is a sparkling wine not from the …

Negociants Australia Portfolio Tasting : Yeast and toast. Very clean on the palate, good length. It is a little simple but it does taste good.

If you like the regular cuvée then this takes it to the next level. Dry and measured with a subtle zest, it competes well with entry level French counterparts.

Glistening mid gold colour. Intense bouquet of Rainier cherry, honey, caramel, citrus, and yoghurt. Rich but fresh palate of lemon and other citrus, white peach, some butterscotch, pale red cherry. Improved from twelve months prior.

The Twelveth Annual Stonefields Dinner (Guelph, ON) : I really liked this but you better like things in the super rich and very oaky style. Nose blasts massive amounts of caramel, salted toffee and butterscotch. Repeats similarly on the palate with abundant richness, and a distinct coffee note, but with a great backbone of acid as well. Finish is quite long.

The Twelfth Annual Stonefields Dinner (Guelph, ON, Canada) : This was a big step up from the Chandon Australia…. Powerful nose of lemon, caramel, toffee and obvious autolytic notes. The palate is very smooth and creamy…wow, this is great. Flavours o lemon, lime, biscuit, minerals and orchard fruit transition to a medium+ finish that complex and balanced. Great showing.

Not as good as the 2005 vintage I had. Pleasant and drinkable but lacks complexity. Maybe a few more years in the cellar will help. Citrus with some yeast notes. Clean and drinkable but nothing more special than various non vintage australian sparlkings available.

Negociants 2012 ICON Tasting (Zed451, Chicago IL) : nose: straight forward nose of citrus, white fruits, and pear tones. Not too much depth to this as it's more surface tones. taste: lighter bodied with tones of lemon peels, pears, and white fruits. Nice medium acidity, but again, lacking depth to it. overall: this is exactly what I would call an inoffensive bubbly. It's not meant in a bad way at all as it's very easy drinking, but it lacks real …

NobleRottersSydney - Penfolds prior to 2000 (Alio's, Surrey Hills) : [cork, 12%] A lightweight, developing nose of strawberries, biscuits and a little toast. The palate is dry and refreshing, tastes mostly of strawberries, is clean, dry and persistent, but with rather clunky bubbles. Perhaps some bottle age has softened it a little, but it lacks much sophistication. Pleasant if somewhat thoughtless drinking.

Monthly Tasting Group LTB 2008-07; Sea breeze wines (by EvA) : Fresh bouquet with apple, citrus and pear. In the taste a lot of citrus acidity and some pear as well. Minerals. Dry, but just a hint of sweetness in the finish together with good bitterness. Good balance. A nice surprise.

NobleRottersSydney - Blind Shiraz Options 2000-01-02 (Guillaume at Bennelong) : {cork, $25} A nose of salmon, pastry and a whiff of cheese. Clean, though. It’s fresh and dry on the palate with apple-acid the noticeable feature. Fine bead, some faint complexity of flavours on the palate; fairly lightweight in body but with a decent medium+ length of finish. Good aperitif style.

NobleRottersSydney - Tamar Trip Sep04 (2): Pipers River (East Tamar wineries) : (A$27, cork) Lots of strawberry hints intermingling with biscuit aromas here. Yeast notes are understated. The bead is perhaps a little coarse, but the wine has an attractive length of finish, and for the money is the pick of the bunch. Pretty good.
