People on here and wine writers (etc.) love to talk about wine aging as if it is predictable, but here’s an example where two bottles bought from the same place, stored on the same shelf of the wine fridge for the same amount of time, were quite different. The one I had 6 weeks ago was outstanding, but there was something wonky with this one. While not awful, there were some off notes and overall it was disappointing.

I just love this wine. So well balanced, showcasing all the typicity of this wonderful grape. 🤌🤌

Last bottle and final word - good stuff! Still going strong with powerful tannins and good acidity. Fruit is still there and it’s all integrated nicely. I’ve gone through a case of this and would happily go through another!

Red with some brown tints. On nose, tobacco, dried cherry, tomato, iron. Medium+ tannins, medium acidity and long finish. Palate more fruit forward with sweet cherry and tomato paste. 92+/-

didn't take notes - brought to a dinner where pork BBQ was served. This went well. Still going strong at 13 years old! 91++

Relatively consistent with Talid's recent note. At first thought it was corked, but that blew off with a few hours. Excellent structure and great sweet/savory combination. 91-92 range. Would buy again.

Not sure if it’s just a great bottle but this has evolved dramatically since the last time I tried it. Mature notes of tobacco, leather, and wood mingle with dark fruit. High tannin and acid still provide backbone. Wonderful right now and curious to see how it evolves further. Excellent!

1 hour decant. High acid and tannin profile but somewhat muddled on the flavors, which were a little hard to isolate and define. Notes of wood and some tar but also some bitterness. Not as enjoyable as previous bottles but still quite good if you like sagrantino. Will need to try another bottle.

Didn't take notes - enjoyed this though. Good on night 2 as well.

Opened at 4:30, poured a small glass - orange peel, cherry, Full body and tannin. Similar to cwilliams and Quaffnov's notes below but the tannins are a bit more settled. Decanted after open for an hour, drank over the next three. Really nice, tannins well integrated, fruits emerging, served with Brisket

Drank over 2 nights (notes from night 2). Didn't note color. Orange peel, cherry pit, sweet cherry on nose. On palate, cherry, tart cherry, red licorice and leather. Full body, full tannins, high acidity and long finish. Rated similarly to a 2010 Aalto drank alongside. 91+

Four hours of decant time and this needed it, the structure in this wine is big. The nose is dark fruit, plum, earth and deep spices. The palate is rigid with both tannins and acid but that does not hold back the enjoyment of the tight fruit and big structure. The finish is very long and very good. Sagrantino is an underappreciated grape and even at this price point is impressive.

Little to no experience with this varietal. I echo the sentiment below. Highly recommend this and a phenomenal QPR.

Outstanding wine. If I had drunk this wine blind, I most likely would have guessed a good bottle of left-Bank Bordeaux. Impressive concentration, complexity, and balance (both aromatic and textural). Imparts a sensation of mouth-coating pigments and strong tannins, but still tastes fresh and lively. It's hard for me to find a fault in this wine, and it has power to boot. This is excellent winemaking that makes sagrantino taste like a world-class varietal. Seriously, this is really good stuff. …

Cherry, fennel, leather, dark pit fruits, green vegetative flavors; very rustic. Medium body; firm but approachable tannins, acid in the finish.

Drank over 3 nights. Best on night 3. Stored overnight in the fridge using a vacu-vin. Dark red color. Very tight nose on night 1. Pine resin, cranberry, tart cherry. Similar flavor profile on palate. Medium body, medium+ tannins, high acidity and long finish. Wine added complexity on night 3 (sour cherry, sweet tobacco) and the palate gained some weight. 90+/- on night one and 91-92 on night 3. Decant for 3-4 hours if drinking now.

Sagrantino, not something I know a lot ... but what I do know, is this was really good. Another reason why I like Italian wine so much. When you get the above entry level for mass consumption and wines are well done. I find Italians are amongst the most approachable and balance wine one can find out there. This one is another proof of it!

I get medium ruby on the color, but it is highly saturated. Intense initial aromas of dark cherry, blackberry, licorice and tobacco opening to red cherry, red licorice, cola and slight black pepper notes with some air. As expected, high acid, high alcohol and high, grippy tannins with similar fruit and spice notes on the palate. Medium finish. With some air, this is enjoyable now, but it will definitely age and likely smooth out a bit. I wish for a …

One might think this is too young, but actually it's drinking quite nicely, especially with food to match. Nicely balanced even with Sagrantino tannins. Highly recommended.

I was nicely surprised by this Sagrantino. Dark purple almost black in color. Nice yet powerful nose of dark cherry, blackberry and allspice. Full bodied, mouth coating and still very fruit forward with a compliment of spices and earthy flavors on the mid palate and finish. Not complex but a nice drinker especially at this price point.

At the winery: Blackcherry, very primary with red licorice; more simple, almost disjointed compared to '08, '10
