Enjoyed slightly chilled at a summer wine lovers picnic dinner. Chosen to pair with Cedar plank Salmon. I prefer drinking Odes that have some age on them. No notes taken but recall notes of watermelon, strawberry and minerality. Among 14 other white wines to select from, this was the first to be emptied.

PNP followed over two days. Watermelon, strawberry but also citrus. Fruit is nuanced and subtle, nicely balanced with minerals, stone and a taut acidity. More complex than I expected, yet still refreshing, perfect in the shade on a hot summer day.

When I first had this right at release it seemed oddly thin. I didn't think that made sense, so I put the bottles aside, thinking to go back to them in a few months. Well I didn't get back to them for a year, and it was only by mistake. Strawberry and wet stone on the nose, with a whiff of alcohol. A touch hot on the palate, with soft fruit notes. Finish is not as robust as previous bottles but still enjoyable.

Benchmark rose, as usual. Maybe a touch less amplitude than previous years, but it could also be due to the fact that it was completely consumed before having a chance to warm to room temp. Good acid, mineral, fruit, perfectly balanced in that bedrock way. Can’t wait to compare it with the new Esola rose they’re making in 2021!
