A very good Argentine malbec. Good balance and texture with rich flavor. More fruity than spicy.

Good taste and smooth but nothing distinctive. Good table wine.

This is delicious. Gorgeous Malbec fruit with good density and ripeness. Label says 13.5ABV and it certainly carries elegance. Nice mildly chalky tannins and sweet supple acidity. Juicy blue and purple fruit with gorgeous florals. This is gorgeous stuff and drinks beautifully now. Might age 5+ years but who cares, the value is insane. 92+

Another year or so, and my last bottle of this superb Malbec. Notes similar to before, though the fruit is pretty much subsumed in a seamless whole now, with a slight predominance of alcohol being my only critical note. I do think this is one of my favourite-ever Malbecs: well made without being confected, powerful without being ponderous.

Dark fruit, licorice, structured tannins and overall good wine.

This wine begs the question - how much could it sell if the labels were better? Otherwise, if there were to be a serious and structured up Reserve Malbec from Argentina, this would probably be my choice. Still quite wound up.

Pnp. Lovely cocoa, dark fruit, spice, touch of vanilla. Good freshness, modest tannin structure, very smooth. Almost delicate in its fruity ripeness. Very good, but could be overlooked. Needs a bit of attention, the right company of food or to be drunk on its own.

Aiolos Tasting (Intercontinental Hotel) : The fruit is riper, black cherry and berry notes, some heavier floral notes, licorice, oak frame, toasted notes, sesame sweetness. Palate showing the same flavour profile,, very ripe black fruit, red fruit, again floral notes, the tannins are bigger, long finish

Aiolos Tasting (Intercontinental Hotel) : Thick profile, very ripe black fruit, the nutty and smoky elements are high, the floral notes give a more ethereal side here, some whole spice too. Palate shows full body, mineral, acidity, harsh tannins, very fresh still, concentrated, nutty, smoky, coffee notes, high alcohol warmth despite only 13.50%, long finish

Great for the price point. Carob and chocolate up front with an earthy finish. Definitely benefits from an hour decant.

Deep ruby. On the nose medium intensity aromas of tobacco, blackcurrant, blackberry, earth, clove, toast. On the palate the wine is dry with medium plus acidity, medium plus silky tannins, medium plus body, medium alcohol. Flavor intensity it medium plus with flavors of tobacco, blackcurrant, blackberry, earth, clove, toast, black pepper, cocoa. Finish is medium. The wine is very good, lacking somewhat on the finish but with some complexity, balance and intensity.

Very happy with this wine. Back in 2019 I had the 2016 Altos Las Hormigas Malbec Terroir Valle de Uco and I was quite disappointed, finding it as I do most Argentinian Malbec, too extracted. This wine on the other hand is more in the same vein as the Gualtallary & Altamira wines from ALH. Much more aging potential, from the more balanced acidity. Excellent wine that will only really begin to show darker fruit in another 3-4 years. The …

Notes very much as before, except tonight I feel the cherry-and-vanilla ice cream notes are more to the fore - the oak influence I presume. Delicious! 'Wood aging: 12 months. Oak: 50% American / 50% French. The French oak brings complexity of aromas in the nose and in the mouth gives roundness to the wine. Meanwhile, the American oak brings intensity and flavours reminiscent of coffee and chocolate.' Well, maybe...though I don't get either coffee or chocolate. Unusual to find …

Dark but vibrant purple. Attractive nose: simmering bramble and blackcurrant fruit, with toasty oak also apparent. A rich but well-balanced palate, savoury despite the ripe fruit, and minerality for freshness. Some cherry vanilla notes coming through on the long finish. A sophisticated and impressive Malbec, bold without being over the top. Another winner from this great Argentinean winery. Cork, 14%.

Immediately expressive on the nose. Complex, with floral tones of lavender and violet, smoke and earth as well as blueberry, blackberry and red cherry. Medium-bodied, with very fine tannins and juicy acids. Long finish. Very good PQR, at about €22/bottle. Delicious.

Decanted an hour or so. DIAM30 closure, so that should tell you how the winery feels about this bottling. Unquestionably an Argentine Malbec. Deep ruby with tinges of purple along the rim. Purple fruits, smoky violets, incense, crushed rock on the nose. Palate is medium-full body, good acid, and a single layer of fruit with some stones. Finish is lots of rocky mineral, some fine grained tannin, tart plum and a touch of floral salinity. Drink now or hold for …

This is alright, a decent sippable Malbec…but that says it all. Lots of primary notes on the palate, but nothing really refined. High level of acidity. Not worth its £16 per bottle.

This Malbec was the second wine in the 19th Virtual Wine tasting. Deep purple with nice legs it had aromas of tobacco, smoke, pepper, black cherry, plum, chocolate and black licorice. The tasters got rich plum, medium tannins, medium acidity, pepper, raspberry, cocoa powder, black cherry and licorice on a medium finish . No apparent oak notes btw. I liked it and for $26 this 90 point effort is getting 4 stars. Drink til 2028 with grilled meat. https://caspernick.com/2021/07/11/altos-las-hormigas-reserve-malbec-2018-uco-valley-argentina/
